MONTICELLO, Ky. (WTVQ) – The man connected to the fires that burned down buildings in downtown Monticello Friday is now in custody. According to the Monticello Police Department, 45-year-old Joey Wayne Hall of Monticello was arrested late Sunday night. He is charged with two counts of arson, 1st Degree, in connection with fires set during the early morning hours on Friday.

Indiana man airlifted following motorcycle accident Saturday evening

An Indiana man was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital following a motorcycle accident that occurred on Lakeway Drive Saturday evening. According to Russell Springs Police, Terry W. Smith, age 67, of Perin, Indiana, was operating a 2008 GMC Yukon and attempted to turn left into Coe’s Steakhouse at around 6:30 p.m. Saturday when he turned into the path of 44-year-old Michael Cochran, of Liberty, Indiana, who was operating a motorcycle.

Alan Keck, Somerset Mayor said right now, they’re picturing a blend of soccer and football, maybe even lacrosse, baseball potential on outdoor turf. Then indoors, they’re really going to focus on tennis, pickleball, archery, and then if the money comes together maybe basketball and volleyball as well. A bill passed in a recent legislative session includes $1 million for Somerset’s Parks and Recreations. The plan is to get to work as soon as everything is approved. Mayor Keck hopes to finish the new sports facility by early 2024.

KSP Releases Identity Of Woman Killed In Motorcycle Crash

Kentucky State Police have released the identity of a woman killed in a motorcycle crash in Rockcastle County. Troopers responded to I-75 Northbound near the 72-mile marker just after 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. According to officials, 32-year-old Matthew S. Sheridan and 26-year-old Faith A. Jenkins, both of Somerset, were traveling on a motorcycle. Officials said the back tire of the motorcycle blew out, and Sheridan lost control. Both were taken to Saint Joseph Hospital in Berea. Jenkins died from her injuries. Sheridan was later transferred to the UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital. He is being treated with non-life threatening injuries. Troopers say neither person was wearing a helmet.
