Elwood man discharges gun, injures deputies with a knife during arrest

ELWOOD — An Elwood man allegedly discharged a gun and injured deputies with a knife during his arrest at his Plum Creek Canyon residence. Jeremy Bendler, 36, has been charged with assault of an officer, a Class 2 felony; use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, a Class 2 felony; and a second or subsequent offense of resisting arrest, a Class 3A felony.

19-year-old Brady man charged with sexual assault for allegedly having sex with teen

A 19-year-old Brady man is charged with a felony after he allegedly had sex with a teenage girl on multiple occasions over a four-month period. Hunter D. Lovitt made an initial appearance in Lincoln County Court on Monday afternoon. He is charged with first-degree sexual assault of a minor. The Class 2 felony carries a 50-year maximum sentence in Nebraska.

Minden First Bank Seniors Beat Elwood At Home

Minden’s First Bank Seniors got a decisive 11-2 win over visiting Elwood in a shortened four-inning contest on June 20 at Ollie Bjorklund Field. The seniors moved to 7-2. David Smolik, Cal Johnson and Evan Smith each pounded two hits to account for most of Minden’s seven total. Carter Harsin had the other hit. Brennan Runge and Smith both had two RBI and Johnson and Ashton Hawkins each collected one. Smolik and Johnson scored three runs apiece.

Lincoln County 19-Year-Old Charged with Sexual Assault of Teen

A 19-Year-Old Lincoln County man has been charged with a felony after allegedly having sex with a teenage girl on multiple occasions throughout a four month period. Hunter Lovitt made an initial appearance in Lincoln County County Monday afternoon. The Brady resident has been charged with first degree sexual assault of a minor. The investigation in the case began earlier this month, Lovitt was arrested Friday and lodged in the Lincoln County Detention Center. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for July 21st.

Elwood 4th of July fireworks show canceled because of dry conditions

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A community that has suffered greatly from wildfires this year has cancelled its Fourth of July fireworks show. The Elwood Fire and Rescue Department announced Thursday that due to exceptionally dry conditions, it has cancelled its Elwood Fireworks show on July 4th and postponed the July 3rd show at Johnson Lake.

The Lions Club of Gothenburg has become the repository of these flags and hold a ceremony each year on Flag Day to dispose of these flags in an orderly and dignified manner according to the United States Flag Code.
