Emoni Bates says he’s transferring to hometown E. Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) — One of the top recruits in the 2021 men’s basketball recruiting class says he’s transferring from Memphis to Eastern Michigan. Emoni Bates announced on Instagram he’s returning to his hometown of Ypsilanti to play for the Eagles of the Mid-American Conference. An EMU spokesman said he could not confirm Bates’ transfer. Bates averaged 9.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game his freshman season at Memphis and started 13 of 18 games. He missed 15 games because of a back injury before appearing in the Tigers’ two NCAA Tournament games.

Detroit police release video of three-wheeler nearly running over officer

The Detroit Police Department has released video of an individual on a three-wheeled vehicle nearly running over an officer during a traffic stop in the downtown area. According to police, the incident happened on Tuesday night around 10:45 p.m. when officers attempted to stop the vehicle for a traffic stop. Officers and a civilian suffered injuries as a result of the incident.

Detroit Woman Charged With First-Degree Murder In Fatal Shooting Of Boyfriend

(CBS DETROIT) — A Detroit woman accused of fatally shooting her boyfriend is charged with first-degree premeditated murder. Antoinette Denise Moore | Credit: Detroit Police Department According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, 51-year-old Antoinette Denise Moore is also charged with tampering with evidence and felony firearm. Moore was arraigned on Monday in 36th District Court and was given a $1 million cash/surety bond. Prosecutors say on June 24, Moore allegedly shot 47-year-old Willie Grant Jr. during an argument. At about 8:03 p.m. that day, police were called to a home in the 16000 block of Bringard Street in Detroit for a reported shooting and found Grant lying face down on the front lawn with a gunshot wound to the back. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Moore was arrested later that evening. OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. (Fox 2) - An Oakland County judge allowed some evidence to be tossed from the trials of James and Jennifer Crumbley. Defense for the Crumbleys filed motions to have several pieces of evidence withheld from their clients' Oxford High School shooting trials. Both James and Jennifer are facing involuntary manslaughter charges after their son Ethan Crumbley is accused of killing four classmates last year.

Detroit mom charged after blind 3-year-old son’s body found in freezer

A Detroit mother has been charged with murder and torture after police found the decomposing body of her blind 3-year-old son stuffed in a freezer in their home. Azuradee France, 31, was hit with a string of charges on Sunday over the death of her little boy, Chase Allen, the Detroit News reported. Chase’s body was discovered in the home’s basement freezer last Friday after police and child services were called to conduct a welfare check on the boy.
