A 31-year-old Oklahoma man died Wednesday after a collision west of Odessa, according to the Department of Public Safety.

A 31-year-old Oklahoma man was killed in an early morning three-vehicle crash Wednesday on State Highway 302 at FM 866, 11 miles west of Odessa. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Daniel Chaparro Garcia of Laverne, Oklahoma was traveling south on FM 866 in a Mercury Montego when he failed to stop at a stop sign and pulled out in front of a Kenworth truck tractor and trailer hauling oil field equipment east on SH 302. Debris from the ensuing crash then struck a Freightliner truck tractor and trailer.

HARPER COUNTY, Okla. — Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agents arrested a man in connection with a pedestrian crash that killed his brother-in-law in 2021. Shortly before midnight on July 7, 2021, the Harper County Sheriff's Office responded to a report that a man was in the roadway of Jane Jayroe Boulevard in Laverne. A news release says it appeared that a vehicle hit the man.

Laverne Alious Nigg, a US Navy Seaman 2nd Class, arrived in Fargo today. His family was at Hector International Airport to greet him, but the family members who likely had loved him the most dearly and suffered the most grievously from his passing were not able to witness this extraordinary moment. The young sailor’s journey home had taken over 80 years.

Alverta Jeanette (Lehman) Endersby slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior, in her home in Columbia, Missouri, on May 18, 2022. She was born to Ralph J. and Nina C. (Simmons) Lehman in Woodward, Oklahoma, on October 29, 1937. Although the family moved around frequently, they always returned to their hometown, Woodward, where Jeanette met Robert Leroy (Bob) Endersby. After Jeanette graduated from Woodward High School, she joined her family, then in California. At age 17, she was hired as the secretary for a general at Hamilton Air Force Base. Returning to Oklahoma, she attended Panhandle A & M in Goodwell, Oklahoma, and graduated from Hill’s Business University in Oklahoma City. Then she worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture until Robert, who had joined the Navy, got leave. On May 31, 1957, the couple were married in Woodward. When Bob reported back to duty, Jeanette accompanied him and took a job with the U.S. Navy in Quonset Point, Rhode Island. The next year the couple welcomed a son, their only child. After Bob was discharged, the family returned home and were active in Oklahoma City’s Classen Boulevard Baptist Church. Bob taught Sunday School and served as a deacon and church treasurer, while Jeanette played the piano and worked as church secretary. Bob passed away on May 8, 1969. Now the breadwinner, the young widow turned to business. She worked the next 20+ years at IBM in Oklahoma City. After retirement, she lived on the Lehman family farm near Yukon, Oklahoma. In 2001, she made a new start in life with many new friends when she moved to Columbia, Missouri, to be near her family. She is survived by her son James; his wife, Linda; two granddaughters, Jane Rebekah Endersby and Katharine Ruth (Kate) Endersby; and grandson, Luke Anthony James Endersby.Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Community United Methodist Church, Columbia, Missouri.

Lois Jean Smith, 88, of Woodward, Okla. passed away on May 21, 2022, in Tishomingo, Okla. Lois was born on August 2, 1933, in Fargo, Okla. to Loyd and Della (Casler) Benger. Lois graduated from Fargo High School and later married Jacob Meier on May 25, 1952. She later married Charles Smith “Smitty” on April 12, 1975, and he preceded her in death on May 27, 2018, after 43 years of marriage. Together they owned and operated Smitty’s Welding in Woodward. Lois was of the Baptist faith, and she deeply loved her family especially her grandchildren and red roses.

As country music began to sound more like pop hits, he and others began pushing the revival of country music. Regardless of if you like steel guitars and Cherokee fiddles or electric guitars and computer overlays, there is no doubt that country music has changed drastically since I used to listen to Loretta Lynn croon away about taking my man on the AM power KSIW in Woodward, Oklahoma.
