Man cited for 3rd OWI after rollover crash in Buffalo Co. Friday night

TOWN OF MONDOVI, Wis. (WEAU) - A man involved in a single-vehicle crash Friday night in the Town of Mondovi is being cited for OWI after rolling his vehicle Friday night. 29-year-old Brandon Behlke of Chippewa Falls told law enforcement that he swerved to miss a tire in the middle of the roadway before crashing and rolling his vehicle in rural Buffalo Co. Friday night. After a search of the roads near the intersection of County Highway A and County Highway TT, no tire was located.

Chippewa Falls man arrested for third OWI after rollover crash

BUFFALO COUNTY, Wis. (WKBT) — A Chippewa Falls man was arrested Friday for third-offense drunken driving after a single-vehicle rollover crash in Buffalo County. Brandon L. Behlke, 29, was found sitting outside of his 2003 GMC Yukon surrounded by debris near the intersection of Hwy. A and Hwy. TT in the town of Mondovi, according to the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office. Officers determined that Behlke had been driving when he lost control and flipped the vehicle, according to the press release.

OBITUARY: Margaret Ann Winter

Margaret Ann Winter, age 79, of Eau Claire, formerly of Reedsville WI, passed away on June 19, 2021 at Care Partners Country Terrace in Altoona, WI, surrounded by her family. Margaret was born on May 12, 1942 in Reedsville, daughter of the late Ignatius and Anna (Tausher) Kabat. She was a graduate of Reedsville High School, class of 1960. On July 3, 1962, she married James Arthur “Jim” Winter at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Reedsville. Margaret shared her skills at various places throughout her life. She began a career at Prochnow’s Sentry Grocery Store of Reedsville and as a waitress at Kabat’s Country Gardens Supper Club of Reedsville, her parents’ business, and later became her brother Harold Kabat's business. She also served as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Park-Lawn Estates of Manitowoc, WI and a Nursing Home in Whitelaw, WI until her health made it challenging for her to continue full-time employment. Margaret also sold Avon and Watkins when she was able, and provided home care for several years to Butch and Linda Peters of Brillion, WI. She was very particular and took great care of herself, always having beautiful hair, polished nails, and people often complimented her about her amazing long eye lashes. In her spare time, she would create ceramics which were often given as gifts to other people, enjoyed camping and traveling with Jim and her son Larry, she was in love with Elvis Presley and was a life-long member of the local “Hound Dog Club” which includes many "Pups" and spent time as a Eucharistic Minister and Church Choir Member. Margaret assisted Jim for 21 years with the Reedsville Firefighters Parade line up, was a member of the Reedsville Lioness Club, was a Catholic Knights member and secretary for 32 years, and just liked to be with people. Because of her love for Mother Mary she could often be seen praying the rosary or listing to it on EWTN.

JONAH’s Affordable Housing Task Force wins grants from ECCF, Pablo Foundation

JONAH (Joining Our Neighbors, Advancing Hope) will use a $56,000 grant from the Pablo Foundation to support the creation of an Eau Claire Tenant Landlord Resource Center (EC-TLRC), and $3,000 from the Eau Claire Community Foundation to create a website for the center. The EC-TLRC will begin operations in August, in office space at Grace Lutheran Church, 202 W. Grand Ave.

Crop ratings continue to drop

ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU) - Then hot, dry weather last week in most of the major growing areas of the country caused crop ratings to fall again. According to this week’s Crop Progress report, the corn crop is now rated 65% good to excellent—down 3 points from a week ago. The best looking corn is in Nebraska where the corn is rated 83% good to excellent with Indiana’s corn now at 70% good to excellent with Illinois at 64% and Iowa down to 56%. The condition of the soybeans fell 2% last week to 60% good to excellent. Like for the corn, Nebraska has the best looking beans at 83% good to excellent while Iowa’s beans are at 57%, Illinois at 66% with Minnesota at just 51% good to excellent.

Glen Flora man gets 4 years in prison for 2020 shooting

CHIPPEWA CO., Wis. (WEAU) - A 23-year-old Rusk County man was sentenced Thursday in Chippewa County Court to four years in prison for shooting a man last year. Kyle Baker pleaded no contest to charges of recklessly endangering safety and possessing a firearm as someone previously convicted of a felony.

Developers ask Eau Claire to help with rising costs for low-income housing building

EAU CLAIRE — An apartment complex that’s already getting up to $800,000 in incentives from the city is seeking an additional $192,700 grant. Developers for The Current have made the new request to the city due to rising construction costs that are making it difficult to make the complex’s second building at a price to keep most of its units affordable to low-income tenants.

Hospitality group raises minimum wage, eliminates tipping

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Owners of a group of restaurants, hotels and bars in Eau Claire have eliminated tipping and have raised their minimum wage to $16 an hour. The Pablo Group says it’s following a trend that aims to improve pay equity for all employees. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Wisconsin’s hourly wage for tipped workers is $2.33. Pablo Group owns six bars, hotels and coffee shops in downtown Eau Claire.
