Agents continue to see large groups of migrants crossing U.S./Mexico border into Texas

HIDALGO COUNTY, Texas — Groups of migrants are crossing the U.S./Mexico border in large numbers, a statement by U.S. Customs and Border Protection said. In recent days, Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) Border Patrol agents found 1,171 migrants in eight large groups in Starr and Hidalgo Counties and disrupted three human smuggling events, the statement said.

Rio Grande City Man Charged With Killing Grandfather

A Rio Grande City man is jailed on a $1 million bond after being charged with the murder of his grandfather. Police had rushed to a home on Kennedy Street Monday evening after getting a frantic call from a woman pleading for help. Officers found an elderly man dead, the woman who called told them who stabbed him, and moments later officers spotted the man’s grandson, 29-year-old Andrew Villalon, walking along a nearby street with a knife in his hand. Villalon was arrested without incident.

Rio Grande City man accused in stabbing death of grandfather

A 29-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with the stabbing death of his grandfather on Monday, according to Rio Grande City police. Rio Grande City police officers were dispatched to a home on Kennedy Street regarding a welfare check at around 6:51 p.m. Monday after receiving a call from a woman who was yelling. While officers were en route, they were advised that a man - identified as Andrew Villalon – had stabbed his grandfather at the location and fled the scene, according to police.
