Born, April 1, 1956 in Glasgow, KY he was a son of the late Norma Jean (Birge) and Otis Cecil [Brownie] Garmon. He was a retired truck driver, driving over forty years. He was of the Methodist faith.

Terry Bea Morris, of Russell Springs, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022. She was 60 years of age. Terry was born May 10, 1962, in Cincinnati, a twin daughter born to the late Jerry Franklin Morris and Ruby Loisene McDonald Morris. She worked as an accounting clerk and administrative assistant at the University of Kentucky, in Lexington. She had church families at University Heights, Jamestown and Patterson Chapel Churches of Christ.

Otis Dutton, age 90, of Russell Springs

Otis Dutton, of Russell Springs, passed away Friday, August 5, 2022, at Russell County Hospital. He was 90 years of age. Born on September 1, 1931, in Russell Springs, he was the only child of the late Samuel Vance and Alma Ruth Cooper Dutton. Otis was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time antiquing. He was a serious UK Wildcat fan, and all his family knew not to bother him during the UK ballgames. Otis was also a well-known croquet player who won many championships, both locally and nationally. He was a member of the Salem United Baptist Church and had served proudly as a deacon since 2008. Many people knew Otis as the former proprietor of Dutton’s Bait Shop and later, Dutton’s Shoes.

Undercover Drug Investigation Leads to Arrest

According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron, an undercover drug investigation has led to the arrest of a Wayne County man on drug and firearm charges. The investigation into the illegal sales of narcotics was conducted by Deputy Derek Dennis. Deputy Dennis’s investigation uncovered information that led him in obtaining a search warrant for a residence on Cardinal Avenue in Monticello. Deputy Dennis with the assistance of Deputy Joe Horne executed the search warrant on that residence at approximately 5:26 pm on August 3, 2022. The search warrant resulted in approximately 7 grams of methamphetamine, plastic baggies, digital scales both commonly used in the illegal sales of methamphetamine, a glass smoking pipe common with drug use, and a 22-caliber rifle being seized.

Carol Ann Powell, of Russell Springs, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022, at Summit Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, in Columbia. She was 71 years of age. Carol was born December 16, 1950, in Columbia, daughter of the late Otis Delmane and Mary Irene Atwood Powell. She was saved at a young age in the old Mt. Calvary Church. Carol enjoyed life. She would hostess poker games and loved to cook for and serve many people in town. After her mother passed, Carol worked to keep the family reunions going, keeping the family together. She was a member of the Ladies’ Auxillary for many years, was a foster parent for some time and coached a girls’ softball team. Carol loved music, dancing and singing karaoke.

No Timetable Available for Road Work and Repairs in Monticello

No timetable has been set to repair the sink holes on Main Street in Monticello. Amber Hale with the KY transportation cabinet, District 8 tells us the agency is still looking at funding options to repair the sinkhole that opened on Main Street a few weeks ago. The blacktopping of Main Street will not occur until the sinkhole operation is completed. This week crews removed reflectors across town, but at this point there is no date available for the actual work to take place.
