56 apartments planned in New Haven's West River, many below market rate

NEW HAVEN — A new rental development in the West River neighborhood will provide housing for people with below-average income, according to the NHP Foundation. The $24.2 million development will include 56 apartments, many of them below market rate, along with a clubhouse, coffee shop and bakery, interior parking, a playground and a community gazebo, according to a statement.

NEWTOWN — Police are looking for a man who they say assaulted a Hilaro’s Service Center employee after being caught trying to steal fuel oil Friday morning. The incident occurred around 6:15 a.m., when the employee interrupted the man attempting to steal fuel from heavy machinery parked in a lot next to Hilario’s on Mount Pleasant Road, according to police.

New Haven Superintendent to Address Principal's Demotion

New Haven's superintendent of schools is expected to make her first public comments Monday about the demotion of a principal over the use of a racial slur. The New Haven Board of Education voted last Monday to demote the principal of Brennan-Rogers Magnet School who used a racial slur in a “hypothetical situation” following a critical race theories workshop, according to Superintendent Ilene Tracey.
