Rain and Cold Arrive for Thanksgiving

The combination of sunshine and strong southerly winds helped drive temperatures to their highest point since last Wednesday. Our blustery midweek allowed for an afternoon high temperature of 60° In Evansville earlier on. The breezy southerly winds will linger throughout the evening ahead and only allow temperatures to fall from 51° around dinnertime to 48° by 10 o’clock. In fact, that 48° temperature at 10 PM will likely represent our coolest temperature of the evening and overnight hours. We'll actually see temperatures gradually climb to the 50° mark around daybreak.

72 Hours of Blustery, Rainy and Cold Weather

All of today’s sunshine helped drive temperatures significantly higher earlier this afternoon. After a day in which we didn’t climb above 35° after 12 PM, the warmer and more pleasant weather was well deserved across the Tri-State today. We officially reached 44° in Evansville earlier this afternoon and while that is nearly 10° warmer than where we were yesterday, today’s high temperature remained 9° below the norm for this time of year. As for the remainder of this evening, a persistent southerly wind will keep temperatures from fluctuating as we head later into the night. After seeing 35° around dinnertime, we’ll dip to just 33° by 10 o’clock - morning low temperatures are only expected to fall a degree or two lower throughout the Tri-State early Wednesday morning.

Our Coldest Temperatures in Months... Again

Today’s high temperature occurred at 12:01 AM - our peak temperature of 42° was 11° below average for this time of the year and temperatures would only drop from there. After dipping to 31° later in the morning, overcast skies only allowed temperatures during the early afternoon to reach 35°. The combination of our now clear conditions and a breezy northwesterly wind, will drop temperatures to their lowest point since the end of February. Many of us tomorrow morning will wake up to our coldest temperature since February 21st - Evansville’s morning low of 22° Will remain 12° all of the norm for this time of the year.

Milder Weather Arrives this Weekend

Our morning low temperature of 23° marked our coldest start to a day since February 20th, nine months ago. The bitter cold certainly have an effect on our peak temperatures later in the afternoon - as a result of our chilly morning, afternoon high temperatures only reached the mid to low 40s area wide. Our high temperature of 43° was our coolest in a week. As for the remainder of the evening ahead, increasing cloud cover will help keep temperatures a bit more mild over the coming hours; after seeing 36° around dinner time, we’ll fall to 33° by 10 p.m. Overnight low temperatures are expected to tumble back down into the upper 20s for many of us; we’ll bottom out near 29° in Evansville.

Bitterly Cold Friday Morning; Slight Weekend Warm Up

FRIDAY: It's expected to be clear this afternoon, leaving us with highs quite similar to Thursday’s - Despite remaining 7° below the norm of November 19th, we’ll take an afternoon high temperature of 46° in Evansville, all things considered. If you have plans out and about tonight, be sure to take a jacket; temperatures will range between the upper 30s in the 40s under partly cloudy skies between the evening commute and dinnertime.

Tri-State Temperatures Take a Tumble

It’s amazing the difference just one cold front can make. Peak temperatures today remained 20° below Wednesday’s; after seeing 68° yesterday afternoon, we only topped out at 48° earlier on today. While clear, the evening ahead looks just as chilly; after seeing temperatures around 39° at dinnertime, we’ll tumble to 35° by 10 o’clock. Friday morning’s expected to be our coldest in just over two weeks; temperatures will fall all the way back down to 28° to kick off the last day of the work week.

Another Cold Front Brings About Winds, Rain and a Cooldown

We may have kicked off our Wednesday morning with plenty of sunshine, but cloud cover quickly rolled back in over the Tri-State, giving us our first hint of an inbound cold front that will drastically change our forecast moving forward. The approaching system is already producing strong southwesterly winds across the region gusting as high as 30 mph at times and rainfall is expected to return to the Tri-State later this evening and continue on into the predawn hours on Thursday. Fortunately, the rainfall will have exited by tomorrow morning’s commute (up to 0.75” in spots), but our temperatures will have only begun to fall.

The Bottom's About to Fall Out

It’s hard to beat days like today. Not only did we see plenty of sunshine throughout the morning and afternoon, but we dealt with temperatures between 5° and 15° above the norm for this time of the year; today’s peak temperature of 67° marks our warmest in nearly a week. Fortunately, the evening ahead looks just as pleasant - the combination of southerly winds and added cloud cover will keep temperature stable throughout the evening and overnight hours. In fact, we’re only expecting to see an overnight low of 57°. That’s two whole degrees above our average high temperature for November 17th!

Big Ups and Downs Ahead

It was a cool afternoon throughout the Tri-State. Temperatures only reached the upper 40s and low 50s area wide; we hit a high temperature of just 49° in Evansville earlier this afternoon (that’s about 7° cooler than average for this time of the year. ) This evening will remain dry, clear and cool. After seeing temperatures around dinner time near 41°, the mercury will windle to 38° by 10 o’clock before tumbling another degree or two between then and daybreak. The presence of a southerly wind flow overnight will only allow us to fall to 37° in Evansville early Tuesday morning.

Coolest Weather Since February

A secondary wave of rainfall rolling though the Tri-State will give way to even cooler weather throughout the Ohio Valley. The last of the rainfall should exit east of the Tri-State between 8PM and 9PM, leaving us with clear skies and a breezy northwesterly wind flow. In fact, that northwesterly wind will continue to force more of that cool Canadian air mass (the same that has recently made itself at home across the Great Plain and upper Midwest) into the Tri-State, plunging temperatures back into the upper 20s and low 30 early Saturday morning. If we reach our anticipated low of 31° in Evansville, it would mark the coolest start to a day in the River City since last Saturday morning; for the record, we fell to 30° that morning.

Cooler Weather Returns to the Tri-State

The cold front has come and gone - and with it, any semblance of warmth across the Tri-State; Evansville hit its peak temperature shortly before 7AM this morning and it's been downhill ever since. After seeing three straight days of temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s, today's passing cold front and rainfall robbed us of another pleasant evening. After dipping to 50° around dinnertime, we'll fall to the mid 40s by 10 o'clock; morning low temperatures will dive towards the mid to upper 30s for many of us early Friday. We'll kick off our Friday with a low of 38° in Evansville, setting the stage for a much cooler day overall. The cool Canadian air mass flowing in over the Tri-State behind today's passing cold front will combine with a strong westerly wind and some additional rain showers Friday morning and early afternoon, resulting in a high temperature near 53° with altogether, unpleasant blustery conditions.

Rainy Start to Veterans Day

Rain and snow showers will continue to move east out of the Tri State by 9AM. Most of the area will continue to dry out by 10AM and beyond. Afternoon highs will struggle to approach the 50-degree mark with a strong westerly wind. Gust will get as high 35 MPH.

A Cold Front, Rainfall, Strong Winds and a Cooldown

Temperatures surged into the upper 60s and low 70s across the Tri-State earlier on this afternoon, representing our last mild day before a cold front swings in from the Great Plains and spoils what, up to this point, has been a gorgeous start to our work week. Despite the increasing cloud cover many of us are already seeing, we're still looking at a pleasant evening ahead - considering our average high temperature for this time of the year is 59°, we'll certainly take a temperature of 57° around dinnertime, 54° by 10 o clock and an overnight low of 53° early Thursday. The combination of southerly winds and overcast conditions will help keep temperatures from fluctuating throughout the evening and overnight. Tomorrow morning's passing cold front however, will have a slightly different effect on the region.
