A Morgan man was slightly injured while trying to avoid a collision in Redwood County Tuesday. According to the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, at about 5:40 p.m. on June 28, Daniel James Reel, age 20, of Morgan, was driving a 1993 Ford pickup northbound on County Road 2. Near the intersection with County Road 11, Reel passed two vehicles that were about to turn left. To avoid crashing into either vehicle, Reel went into the ditch at the northwest corner of the intersection.

Sleepy Fire Department rescues man from grain bin

The Sleepy Eye Fire Department rescued a man from a grain bin Tuesday, turning a potentially tragic circumstance into one of relief. Fire crews responded at about 11:30 a.m. to an individual trapped in a grain bin about three miles west of Sleepy Eye. Fire Chief Ron Zinniel said the man was buried up to his neck in corn when rescue crews arrived. Zinniel declined to name the victim, but the New Ulm Journal identified him as Robert Nelson.

Hwy 19 Redwood Falls bridge closure extended to 5 pm, July 1

A temporary detour for the Highway 19 bridge repair project in Redwood Falls has been extended until 5:00 p.m., Friday, July 1. The bridge is closed to allow concrete to cure, and the required strength outcome hasn’t reached 100 percent. Allowing the bridge to cure without vibrations from traffic prevents cracking of the new concrete, adding years to the bridge’s lifespan.
