Company with questionable history planning bar crawls in Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. -- A series of bar crawls are scheduled in Eugene for Saturday, Sept. 25, but the company behind them has a questionable history. All three are hosted by Bar Crawl Unlimited, an Arizona-based company which has an F rating from the Better Business Bureau. The company’s owner, listed in business filings as Adam Dobres, also owns A-Z Food Festivals.

Eugene brewery earns gold medal at 2021 Great American Beer Festival

EUGENE, Ore. — Alesong Brewing & Blending was awarded a gold medal at the 2021 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition, the brewery stated in a news release. This year marks the sixth year in a row Alesong has medaled at GABF, coinciding with each year they have released beer since their establishment. The win also increases the length of their active medal streak to be amongst the ten longest in the country. Locally, Alesong was the only brewery in Eugene and one of only fourteen Oregon breweries to take home an award during this year’s ceremony.

Wine and Chowder Event Moved; 8 More Cases of COVID-19 for Florence; OHA Weekly COVID Report; Daily COVID Numbers; Vax Clinic

The popular Florence Wine and Chowder Trail is being moved to February. The traditional October event has been rescheduled for the winter date. The Florence area Chamber of Commerce announced the change yesterday. Chamber CEO and President Bettina Hannigan stated one of the benefits of a February event is the affordability of hotels and the hopes that restaurants will have recovered from summer shortages of food, supplies and staff. Hannigan says times and locations are still being worked out, but the date will be February 18, 19, and 20. The event will offer wine tastings at several indoor venues and chowders from participating restaurants. More information can be found at

Seniors enjoy first in-house lunch in 19 months

In the first photo, local Senior Citizens enjoy lunch in the Senior Center dining room Wednesday, Sept. 1, after a hiatus of some 19 months due to precautions required by the state in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Several dozen filled the dining room when The New Era arrived, enjoying a meal of barbecued ribs, baked beans and macaroni and cheese, and dessert.
