Two-vehicle wreck Thursday morning sends Russell Springs woman to hospital

A two-vehicle wreck on South Highway 127 Thursday morning sent a Russell Springs woman to the hospital, according to Russell Springs Police. The wreck occurred at around 6:39 a.m. Thursday when a 2003 Chevy Pickup operated by 25-year-old Tristan C. Adkins of Jamestown struck a 2012 Kia Sportage operated by 57-year-old Monica Burke of Russell Springs.

Five Month Investigation Ends With “One Of The Largest Drug Seizures” In Somerset Police Department History

A joint effort between local, state and federal law enforcement partners ended in what officers call “one of the largest drug seizures” in Somerset Police Department’s history. Officers announced the bust Wednesday morning following a five-month investigation. Two men, Wesley Aaron Calhoun and Dennie A. Smith, both of Somerset, were recently indicted in the case. As part of the investigation, officers from SPD, Kentucky State Police, the FBI and the DEA were able to collect 30 pounds of crystal meth, six handguns, two AR rifles and more than $30,000 in cash. Back in February 2022, officers recovered the first 10 grams of meth while serving a warrant at Smith’s home. Additional warrants for other locations led to Calhoun’s involvement in the case. The pair were finally arrested earlier this month. Calhoun and Smith were each charged with conspiracy to distribute 550 grams of meth and possession with intent to distribute and firearms charges.

Two Kentucky men arrested in ‘record drug seizure’

SOMERSET, Ky. (WKYT) - Two men are facing charges in connection with a big drug bust in Kentucky. According to the Somerset Police Department, the five-month investigation, which also involved federal agencies and Kentucky State Police, resulted in them confiscating 30 pounds of crystal meth, guns and $30,000 in cash.

Government offices to be closed Independence Day

The Independence Day holiday brings the closures of government offices around the county. Both the city halls in Russell Springs and Jamestown will be closed Monday, July 4th, as will the Russell County Courthouse and the Russell County Judicial Center. All will reopen on Tuesday at their regularly scheduled times.

Adonis Logan ’22 completes Entrepreneurial Mindset CentreWorks Certification

Adonis Logan ’22 recently became Centre College’s first student to obtain the Entrepreneurial Mindset Certification (EMC2) from the College’s CentreWorks program. Earning the certification means that a student has gained substantial knowledge and practice in entrepreneurial competencies through their involvement with CentreWorks. Those engaged with the initiative can expect to learn about innovation process mastery, startup leadership, financial/investment acumen, communication and growth mindset through semester-long rotations. The program culminates with students presenting what they have learned throughout their four-year experience—though Logan was able to complete the certification within two.
