Memorial Day Honors

American Legion Post 46 and VFW Post 4797 will visit cemeteries and provide military honors in Star Valley on Monday, May 30 for Memorial Day. The American Legion Post 46 will begin cemetery visits in Alpine at the Nordic Inn Memorial at 8:15 a.m. on Monday. Members of the American Legion will then travel to the McCoy Creek Bridge, with an estimated arrival time of 8:30 a.m.

Alpine Sports Park Expanding

◆ With the help of an angel donor, Alpine adds to their skateboarding area. Earlier this month, construction started on the Alpine Sports Park. Currently, there are baseball fields, horseshoe pits, a pump track for biking, an ice-skating rink, and a skatepark. Now, the skateboarding area will be expanded to add a skate bowl.

Governor talks healthcare, education, taxes in Star Valley

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon visited Star Valley on Monday, May 24, making stops at Star Valley Health in Afton and Alpine, Star Valley High School, the Afton Armory and meeting with members of the Wyoming and Star Valley Arts Councils. During his tour, SVI Media sat down with Governor Gordon to discuss his visit and current issues facing the state.

Afton announces fundraising plans to improve Star Hill

The Town of Afton has announced a fundraising campaign with the hopes of improving the historic star on the hillside at the mouth of Swift Creek Canyon. The town said the new Star project should be completed by early summer 2023 and will consist of a fabricated steel structure equipped with color changing LED lights, a live view camera overlooking Afton and underground power. The twelve-month project plan will kick off with a fundraising campaign in June 2022 and wrap up with a celebration to the honor the past and welcome the future.
