Holman School marker dedication set for July 2

A historical marker dedication ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2 at the Holman Heritage Community Center at 605 N. Buerkle St. in Stuttgart. The Grand Prairie Historical Society received a Curtis Sykes Grant from the Black History Commission of Arkansas, with which they funded the marker plaque. It commemorates the history and local impact of Holman School from its beginnings over 100 years ago. The school served Stuttgart’s African American students until 1970.

COPY to deliver backpacks to local schools in lieu of in-person event for third consecutive year; donations being accepted now

For over a decade, COPY (Community Outreach Programs for our Youth) held its Back-2-School Extravaganza at John Cain Park in Stuttgart. The event has been canceled for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. LaTaaka Harvey, founder and director of COPY, said the organization will donate backpacks and supplies directly to schools in Stuttgart for the third consecutive year.

Seyller unseats incumbent in school board run-off

Stuttgart School Board zone three challenger, Rebecca Seyller, defeated incumbent Todd Barnes in Tuesday’s run-off election.
