Levi S. Steinhoff

BAY CITY, MI – Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother passed away peacefully Saturday, October 16th, 2021, at Bay Medical Care Facility, age 86. Levi was born June 15th, 1935, in Munising, Michigan, to the late Russell and Grace (Gollinger) Steinhoff. He graduated from Mather High School in Munising in 1954 and took a construction job in Detroit just to make ends meet. Not long after, Levi met and fell in love with Joan L. Moreau (in a story that includes a mild car chase and roughians – it was classic!). They were united in marriage on October 6th, 1956, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Saginaw and returned to the place he called home and was extremely proud of, Munising, within that same year. While living in Munising, he was a proud member of Munising’s volunteer Fire Department! Levi and Joan started their family there and would eventually make their new home in Bay City. He retired from General Motors in 1991 after 30 years of dedicated service in the Stock Room at the Grey Iron Foundry in Saginaw. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish-St. Mary’s Church, Past Grand Knight and 3rd Degree Brother Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #414, and 4th Degree Sir Knight of Bishop Murphy Assembly #0491 as well as their Color Corps. Levi was a bingo caller for many years at St. Mary’s Church and Knights of Columbus Council #414, Linn Street bingos. In his younger years, Levi enjoyed playing blooper ball, deer hunting, fishing and writing poetry. He lived by the idea that strangers were just friends we haven’t met yet, and he was rarely seen without a smile, story, joke, or kind word. It was a family joke/fact that everywhere Levi went, he ran into someone he knew. This includes the time he and Joan vacationed to Hawaii – an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean – for their 50th anniversary, and ran into an old schoolmate at a Luau!
