SAGINAW, Mich. (WJRT) - Part of the Saginaw River was blocked near the Lake State Railroad bridge after a 630-foot freighter ran aground Thursday evening. A tug boat helped pull the Calumet free around 7:50 a.m. Friday, but the river remained partially closed while the Coast Guard conducted assessments and surveys in the area.
The U.S. Coast Guard has dislodged a cargo freighter that was stuck in the Saginaw River. At 8 p.m. on Oct. 21, the Coast Guard received a report that a 630” bulk cargo freighter, identified as the M/V Calumet, had run aground north of Lake State Railroad bridge in Essexville. No medical or search and rescue concerns stemmed from the incident.

SAGINAW, MI — Saginaw firefighters quelled a late-night house fire on the city’s East Side, one that appears to have been deliberately set. About 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20, fire crews responded to a reported structure fire at 925 Emerson St. They arrived to find fire venting from a first-floor window of a two-and-a-half-story house that appeared to be vacant, said Battalion Chief James Fourman.
BAY CITY, Mich. (WJRT) - Federal agents have joined the investigation into a vehicle explosion outside a Bay City residence early Tuesday. The resident in the 300 block of South Kiesel Street heard the blast sometime between 5 and 6 a.m., but did not go outside to see what happened. The resident discovered the damage when they went outside to leave for work around 8:30 a.m.
