Cattlemen name Brad Bown King Cowboy

MANTI—The Sanpete County Cattlemen’s Association has named Brad Bown of Manti as the 2002 latest King Cowboy. Russell Faatz, association president, presented the award at the organization’s annual dinner Thursday, June 23 at the Fairgrounds pavilion. Bown will represent the association in the annual Sanpete County Fair parade later this summer.

Sandra Bigler will lead out as grand marshal for Hub City Days

MT. PLEASANT—Sandra Bigler, the grand marshal of Hub City Days, has served Mt. Pleasant and its residents throughout her adult life. She is a descendant of Seely pioneers, who were among the first Mt. Pleasant settlers in 1859. She was born in the Madsen Hospital on Main Street on March 22, 1945 to Hyrum Carlton Seeley and Elverda Elizabeth Smith. She has lived in Mt. Pleasant her entire life except for a year and a half in Salt Lake City.

MORONI—Leonard Blackham, former state senator and Utah Commissioner of Agriculture, and his wife, Laura, will be the grand marshals of the Moroni July Fourth celebration. Leonard has lived his whole life in Moroni, and Laura came to Moroni at age 14. Sterling approves three turnouts for firefighters

STERLING—The Sterling Town Council approved the purchase of three new “turnouts” for the volunteer fire department at its meeting Tuesday, June 21. Turnouts refer to the array of personal protective equipment worn by firefighters. The equipment includes the jackets, pants, helmet and boots. The new turnouts comply with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidelines. The turnouts are safe to use for up to 10 years.
