Obituary – Paul Matthews

Memorial service for Paul Matthews, age 58, of Como, Texas, will be held at a later date. Mr. Matthews passed away on June 19, 2022, at Christus Mother Frances – Tyler. Paul was born on July 4, 1963, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to Bruce and Jamie (Taylor) Matthews. He worked for Ocean Spray for 35 years as a machine operator and forklift driver. Paul loved the outdoors and searching for artifacts, but he loved his kids and his family most of all.

Paris daily crime report || June 24, 2022

Paris Police responded to 91 calls for service and arrested 8 persons on June 23, 2022. Paris Police stopped a gray 2006 BMW in the 2100 block of Lamar Ave at 3:39 P.M. on June 23, 2022 for not displaying a registration sticker on the windshield. The driver, 31-year-old Katie Rae Simpson, of Cookville, Texas, was found to have two outstanding Municipal Court warrants. During the investigation, the license plate that was displayed on the rear of the vehicle was found to belong to another vehicle. During the arrest, Simpson was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and several articles of identifying information that did not belong to her. Simpson was charged with possession of a controlled substance of less than one gram and fraud by possession of identifying information. Simpson was placed in the city jail awaiting transfer to the Lamar County Jail.

Obituary – Coy “Cowboy” Vicars

A funeral service for Coy “Cowboy” Vicars, age 83, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2022,at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Lantz officiating. Interment will follow at Tira Cemetery with Aiden Brown, Brayden Brown, Kyle Jones, Brad Dodd, Dakota Robertson and Mark Davenport serving as pallbearers and Jimmy Anderson and Chandlyn Brown serving as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. Mr. Vicars passed away on June 24, 2022, at Christus Mother Frances Hospital – Sulphur Springs.

Paris Police Report For Friday (Jun 24)

Truck Driver Arrested On Interstate 30 On A Reckless Driving Charge

A truck driver was arrested on Interstate 30 on a reckless driving charge Thursday afternoon, according to arrest reports. Cumby Police Officer Justin Talley was alerted a westbound 18-wheeler had been reported to county dispatchers for reckless driving, specifically driving with three blown tires that were emitting sparks as it continued on Interstate 30 toward Cumby. Talley reported seeing the white Freightliner Cascadia just after 11 a.m. June 23, 2022, on I-30 west near mile marker 112. Talley reported seeing the 18-wheeler leave its lane and nearly strike another vehicle, then continued westward, too close to the vehicle in front of it at speeds between 75 and 80 miles per hour with three completely destroyed tires and rims, Talley alleged in arrest reports.

Summer Day Camp is plenty of fun for students

The Sulphur Springs Summer Day Camp is in full swing, taking local students on field trips and allowing them to participate in many different activities. “We are in love with this camp,” said Site Coordinator Amanda Walker. The camp consists of 35 to 40 kids, offering them an outlet for fun and creativity throughout the summer months.
