Oakes Hires Skoglund As New Boys Basketball Head Coach

OAKES, N.D. (Oakes Public School) – Oakes Public School announced that they have hired Jeremy Skoglund as their new varsity boys basketball coach. Coach Skoglund has two children, a daughter, Brooke, who is 23, and son, Trey, who is now a Junior at Oakes High School. Jeremy grew up in Hecla, SD, where he participated in basketball, football, and track. While in high school, he and his teammates appeared in 2 State Basketball Tournaments and 3 State Track Meets. After high school, Jeremy continued pursuing his passion for athletics by running hurdles at SDSU for a year.

ADM's Northern Sun plant partially shuts down to deal with bin damage

ENDERLIN, N.D. — An oilseed processing plant in Enderlin has been at least partially shut down for a week after employees noticed a meal tank had shifted on its foundation. The ADM Northern Sun plant, which crushes sunflowers, canola and soybeans into oil, has been partially shut down since June 17 while crews have assessed the problem and necessary repairs, said Jackie Anderson, a spokesperson for ADM.

Fletcher Willprecht Strikes Out Thirteen in Post 36 Win

OAKES, N.D. ( – The Oakes Post 36 Legion baseball team dominated the Edgeley Post 146 Legion baseball team by a final score of 11-5. Despite the high amount of runs, it was the pitching that was the headline of the day for Post 36. Starting pitcher Fletcher Willprecht was dominant, to say the least with 13 strikeouts in six innings pitched in the win. He had an immaculate inning (nine pitches for nine strikes leading to three strikeouts) in the top of the second inning, which was one of the two innings where he struck out three batters. Willprecht also allowed just three earned runs, three walks and six hits and picked up the victory.

OAKES, N.D. ( – One June 7th, a vote for the Oakes Public School Board was voted on, but it resulted in an unofficial tie. However, there was a ballot that was recently discovered that put Rhonda Day on top with 65 votes. Day squeaked by John Bakke by one vote and Ryan Rosendahl came in 3rd place with 59 votes.

EDGELEY, N.D. ( – The Oakes Post 36 Legion baseball team defeated Edgeley Post 146 in a pitcher’s duel by a final score of 2-1 on Monday night in Edgeley. Edgeley got on the scoreboard first in the second inning thanks to starting pitcher Austin Strobel getting an RBI double to bring home left-fielder Jacob Nitschke, who reached on a walk. Strobel was dominant on the mound. He started off giving up back-to-back doubles, but after that, he was virtually unhittable retiring his next nine batters. However, Oakes’ catcher Howie Neustel was able to score on a balk in the fourth inning. After that, left-fielder Steele Hansen drove in another run with an RBI double. Conor Schall was solid on the mound with his start. He gave up just one hit and one earned run with three walks and three strikeouts. Fletcher Willprecht came in the game in relief and dominated. He struck out the final six batters and didn’t give up a run in his two-and-two-thirds innings pitched.
