Fire in San Rafael

SAN RAFAEL, N.M. – Cibola County Sheriff’s Office arrested Alex Roberts, San Rafael, New Mexico resident, after he allegedly burned his house down. After speaking with Roberts, CCSO discovered that he had a warrant for his arrest and took him into custody. Roberts allegedly tried to light a small fire on his porch that got away from him and burned the residence to the ground, Sheriff Tony Mace called the property, “a total loss.”

L Bar Ranch to Become Wildlife Management Area

GRANTS, N.M. – The “L Bar Ranch” outside of Grants, New Mexico has long been private property. New Mexico officials have announced that L Bar property has been purchased, and will become the largest state-owned recreational property in the state. Over 54,000 acres of land will be added to the existing wildlife management area. The site will build onto the El Malpais National Conservation Area, Cibola National Forest, and Continental Divide National Scenic Trail.

CCSO Stops ABQ Bank Robber

LAGUNA, N.M. – Laguna Police Department attempted to stop an erratic driver on Interstate 40. The driver was reportedly causing near-accidents when LPD caught up with him. LPD initiated a traffic stop in the early afternoon on June 14, but instead of lawfully pulling off to the side of the road, the driver sped off. Acoma Police Department, New Mexico State Police and the Cibola County Sheriff’s Office assisted LPD with catching the offender.

Local Projects and a Little Elbow Grease

GRANTS, N.M. — Mayor Erik Garcia has been known around the community for being involved in a number of local projects to try to improve places that he says have potential. A saying Garcia likes to use regarding these projects is that they only need “a little elbow grease.”

Grants Riverwalk Has Seen Better Days

GRANTS, NM – After learning that the Fifth Street pump would be down for four to eight weeks, the City of Grants has decided to focus on a detailed cleaning of the Riverwalk area, specifically on the north end. “The arroyo from Fifth Street downstream is dry due to the pump being down,” said Mayor Erik Garcia. “In addition, some of the grass spots have dried up due to valves being down, leaks and change in administration.” Garcia added, “The challenges are there. With the pump being down for a while, we’ve decided to perform a detailed cleaning of the area. We are basically having to give up a couple months of different areas of the park being utilized to enjoy for years to come. We are asking for a little patience from the public during the cleanup.”

In response to Ralph Lucero's clearing up the facts letter. The fact is that the County receives the majority/bulk of its money from property taxes received from the City of Grants and the Village of Milan. This is what I said, not as Lucero puts it "the County gets all its money from the City."
