A Texas woman was killed when an off road vehicle crashed in Lyon County. Lyon County authorities were called to the scene in the 400 block of Road V Monday before 6:00 a.m. Officers found a Polaris RZR in a ditch, resting on the passenger side. Chelsea Moore, 30, of Hunt, Texas was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deadly crash in southeast Lyon County

A Texas resident was killed Monday morning in a rollover ATV crash in southeast Lyon County. A man from Hartford was seriously injured. A statement from the Sheriff’s Office later said Chelsea Moore, 30, of Hunt, Texas, was found dead inside a Polaris RZR, which was partially in a ditch on Road V near Road 50.

Emporia Reds U-12 baseball team State Champions

The Emporia Reds U-12 team won the USSSA Class A State championship over the weekend. The U-12s were 6-0 for the weekend. In pool play, the U-12s defeated Hays Stars and Stripes 3-1 and Topeka Lake Monsters 14-3. In bracket play, they defeated the Lake Monsters 6-4, Olathe Pythons 12-4, Salina Kings 2028 10-2, and defeated B-Town out of Baxter Springs 9-8 in the Championship game.

Rogers makes campaign stop in Emporia

State Treasurer Lynn Rogers visited with constituents during a campaign stop at Twin Rivers Winery in downtown Emporia on Saturday. Rogers was an agricultural banker for 31 years before retiring in 2016 to become more active in politics. He was elected to the Kansas Senate where he served from 2017-2019, then served as Lieutenant Governor under Governor Laura Kelly. He was appointed as State Treasurer by Gov. Kelly in January 2021, filling the position after former Treasurer Jacob LaTurner was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Rogers is now running for election with a campaign focused on educating Kansans about the role of the State Treasurer.

Emporia Reds 12U wins state tournament

The Emporia Reds 12U team won the 12A USSSA State Tournament at Blue Valley Recreation Sports Complex in Overland Park over the weekend. The team, which has won 11 in a row through Sunday, is a group of 12-13-year-olds (players can be 13 if their birthday is after the May 1 cutoff) that plays league games in Topeka. But the team is more geared toward competing in tournaments, and that is where they have shined this summer.
