Dedication Ceremony Held for Emmet County Water Trail

(Estherville)—A dedication ceremony was held this(Wednesday) afternoon for the Emmet County Water Trail on the West Fork of the Des Moines River. During the ceremony Iowa DNR Director Kayla Lyon presented a framed certificate to Estherville City Administrator Penny Clayton. That was followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony with members of the Emmet County Water Trails Committee. Lyon says there are now over a thousand miles of water trails in Iowa.

Two Arrested on Drug Charges in Separate Emmet County Investigations

Estherville, IA (KICD)– Two Emmet County men have been arrested on drug charges as part of two separate investigations from earlier this month. The first case began as a traffic stop in Armstrong early last week where further investigation is said to have uncovered controlled substances . That led to 31-year-old Daniel Douglas being taken into custody and charged wtih possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and driving while suspended.

Estherville Man Dies In Motorcycle Accident

From Radio Iowa- An Estherville man died as the result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in rural Emmet County over the weekend. According to Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens, a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by 64-year-old Michael Schubert was eastbound on a county road, when the motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway and entered the road ditch. Schubert was pronounced dead at the scene by the Emmet County Medical Examiner.

According to Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens, a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by 64-year-old Michael Schubert was eastbound on a county road, when the motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway and entered the road ditch. Schubert had been reported missing to authorities around 3:30 p.m. Sunday after not returning from a motorcycle ride the day before.

(Estherville)--The Emmet County Water Trails Association and the Iowa DNR invite the public to attend the Emmet County Water Trails Dedication Ceremony next Wednesday June 23rd. Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lexie Ruter says getting the West Fork of the Des Moines River designated as a water trail has been a multi-year project.

Estherville Man Arrested After Criminal Mischief Investigation in Armstrong

(Estherville)--An Estherville man is in custody on multiple charges as the result of an investigation into criminal mischief in Armstrong. According to Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens, the sheriff’s office investigated two incidents in Armstrong recently where a citizen had reported that the tires on their vehicle had been flattened. As a result of that investigation, charges were filed on 49-year-old Theodore West of Estherville and an arrest warrant was issued. In addition, a search warrant was also executed on West’s residence last Thursday.

Firefighters Respond to Grass Fire North of Estherville

(Estherville)--The Estherville Fire Department responded to a grass fire Monday afternoon north of town. Estherville Fire Chief Dick Beaver says the fire was reported shortly after 1:15 pm at the Matt White farm located at 1170 360th Ave. Upon arrival, firefighters found a pile of manure and grass on fire. Beaver says the manure had spontaneously combusted and started burning the pile and the grass around it.

Emmet Co. Community Foundation Announces 2021 Grant Awards

(Estherville)--The Emmet County Community Foundation has announced the awarding of nearly $105,000 in grant funding to 18 projects in Emmet County as part of its 2021 grant cycle. The largest grants of $10,000 were awarded to the ELC Patrons of the Fine Arts for Music Shells and to the city of Armstrong for library improvements. Other grant awards include $8,000 to Emmet County Emergency Management. The funds will be used to equip the county’s new IC Trailer with technology according to Emergency Management Director Travis Sheridan.
