Both Cody Soccer Teams & Powell Open State with Wins

The Class 3A Boys and Girls State Soccer Tournament got underway on Thursday with first round action. Starting off with a look at the Cody Broncs. The Broncs entered State as the No. 3 seed out of the West and were matched-up with Douglas, the No. 2 Seed out of the East, in the first round.

Lindsay, Wolsey and Cornia top students at LHS

A trio of dedicated all-around students will speak to their classmates during next Monday’s Lovell commencement ceremonies as honor students of the Class of 2022. Quinn Lindsay is the 2022 LHS valedictorian, and Dalton Wolsey is the salutatorian. Seniors last Wednesday voted to name Samuel Cornia as the LHS Honor Student for 2022. Cornia also happens to be third in the Class of ’22, according to school counselor Tawnya Teter.

Joyce Kay Bader

Joyce Kay Bader, 79, passed away May 9, 2022, at the Hot Springs Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis, Wyo., with her loving husband Dale Bader by her side. She was born May 20, 1942, in Cass Lake, Minn., to LeRoy Marion and Iris Leone (Cravens) Applegate. She was little sister to her brother Lynn and big sister to her brother Larry. During her childhood, Joyce's family moved to Gering, Neb., and Powell, Wyo., where Joyce would start her elementary education. A few years later, the family made one final move, and put down roots in Basin, Wyo. It was there that Joyce graduated in 1961. Throughout school, she enjoyed being a cheerleader and was a carhop at the Big B drive-in. She loved roller skating and ice skating and was a pleasure to watch as she was very talented.

Byron, Wyoming, likely to go without lights

LOVELL – Those looking to avoid light pollution will find themselves at home in Byron, as the town will likely need to wait until next spring to install lights on Main Street following this summer’s street project. In 2014, Byron attained a Wyoming Department of Transportation grant to replace the town’s street lights, receiving $400,000 for the project. Inflation has not been kind to it, with those funds no longer enough to cover the project. ...
