Minden First Bank Seniors Beat Elwood At Home

Minden’s First Bank Seniors got a decisive 11-2 win over visiting Elwood in a shortened four-inning contest on June 20 at Ollie Bjorklund Field. The seniors moved to 7-2. David Smolik, Cal Johnson and Evan Smith each pounded two hits to account for most of Minden’s seven total. Carter Harsin had the other hit. Brennan Runge and Smith both had two RBI and Johnson and Ashton Hawkins each collected one. Smolik and Johnson scored three runs apiece.

Charles “Chuck” Messerschmidt Jr, 86, of Lexington, died at home Wednesday, June 22, 2022 after battling pancreatic cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 27 at 11 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Rob Kuefner, officiating. Oxford man charged in Furnas County sex trafficking case takes plea deal

BEAVER CITY, Neb. — An Oxford man charged in connection to the ongoing Furnas County sex trafficking case has taken a plea deal. According to Furnas County District Court records, Brent Keslar, 40, pled no contest on June 14 to one count of committing negligent child abuse – no injury. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors reduced a charge of first-degree sexual assault to committing negligent child abuse – no injury.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A community that has suffered greatly from wildfires this year has cancelled its Fourth of July fireworks show. The Elwood Fire and Rescue Department announced Thursday that due to exceptionally dry conditions, it has cancelled its Elwood Fireworks show on July 4th and postponed the July 3rd show at Johnson Lake.
