Harlingen police are scouring for clues to find whoever vandalized St. Anthony’s Catholic Church over the weekend. An outdoor statue of the Virgin Mary was found toppled over and two angel statues were missing. The value of the statues isn’t known. HARLINGEN — Valley International Airport officials say they haven’t seen passenger numbers like those of the past three months in 14 years. The airport, benefiting from pent-up demand following the travel downturn during the COVID-19 pandemic, posted more than 40,000 enplaned passengers in March and April, and then 39,294 passengers in the month of May.

McAllen’s 94th Annual Independence Day Celebration begins with an early morning patriotic program at 8 a.m., followed by the Main Street Parade at 9 a.m. along Main St. from Houston Ave. to Beech Ave. and then the Freedom Festival at Archer Park, 101 N. Main, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for classic family fun, music, food, and games. The day ends at Municipal Park, 1921 N. Bicentennial Blvd., from 6 to 10 p.m., for more food, live music and entertainment. Starting at 9 p.m., the H-E-B Concert in the Sky fireworks extravaganza will go live from Municipal Park; listen to the fireworks set to patriotic music by tuning in to 710-AM KURV.
