Vermont State Police On June 27, 2022 at approximately 2308 hours, Troopers from the Williston Barracks responded to the area of VT Route 108 in the Town of Cambridge for a report of a tractor-trailer stuck in Smugglers' Notch. Upon arriving on scene, Troopers located the tractor trailer stuck in the sharp curve located near the top of Smugglers' Notch. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Edzer Cosmeus (37) of North Lauderdale, FL. Cosmeus stated he observed the several warning signs prohibiting tractor trailers from travelling through the notch but continued to follow his GPS.

A Vermont man was caught on camera wildly swinging an excavator at two state troopers who were trying to take his son into custody. The troopers had gone to Wayne Tallman’s home in Hardwick earlier this month to arrest his 24-year-old son, Brandon Tallman, in relation to an assault and burglary case, police said. Vermont Capitol Police are asking for tips from the public that could help them identify a suspect they say vandalized the Vermont State House in Montpelier over the weekend. Investigators released a surveillance image on their Facebook page which shows a person outside the historic building over the weekend. Capitol Police say the person in the image is the prime suspect in a vandalism that left seven windows broken across the front of the building.

In what appears to be a first for Vermont State Police, officers were attacked by a man with an industrial excavator.
