Police issue alert of string of armed robberies on Chicago's Near West Side

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago police issued a warning Tuesday about a string of armed robberies on the city's Near West Side. In each incident four males between 14 and 18 years old approach the victims, pulled out guns and demanded the victims' property. The robberies happened at the following times and locations:· 700 block of North Wolcott June 11, 2022 7:30AM· 600 block of North Wood June 11, 2022 7:30AM· 400 block of North Paulina June 11, 2022 7:30AM· 2100 block of South Paulina June 22, 2022 4:05AMAnyone with information on any of these incidents is asked to contact the Area Three Bureau of Detectives at (312)744-8263.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Jonathan Jackson has declared victory in the 1st Congressional District race. Jackson was ahead with 28 percent of the vote late Tuesday – compared with 19 percent for Ald. Pat Dowell (3rd), and 14 percent for Karin Norington-Reaves. While final results were not in as of 10 p.m., both Dowell and Norington-Reaves have now conceded. Jonathan Jackson is the son of the Rev. Chicago Son Pleading For The Return Of His Missing Pregnant Mother

38-year-old Cheretha Morrison is a mother of two living in the Englewood neighborhood on the southwest side of Chicago. The loving and dedicated mother was three months pregnant with her third child. On February 26, 2021, Cheretha dropped her daughter off at Earle Elementary School in the 2000 block of West 62nd Street. Cheretha was supposed to meet with her son in the morning hours of the same day. He tried multiple times to reach his mom by cellphone, but she never answered any of his calls.

Three children confirmed dead in basement fire in Humboldt Park

CHICAGO (CBS) – Three boys -- ages 4, 6, and 11 -- died following a fire in Humboldt Park over the weekend.The Chicago Fire Department rushed into a home near Potomac Avenue and Pulaski Road just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday.Witnesses say firefighters immediately started performing CPR on the children before rushing them to the hospital.A 4-year-old boy was taken to Saint Mary Hospital for smoke inhalation and was pronounced dead. He was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Axel Cruz.Two other boys -- Jayden Cruz, 6, and Angel Rodriguez, 11 -- also died in the fire, according to the Medical Examiner's office.Another young boy was also hospitalized in critical condition.Two adults were also injured in the fire. A 40-year-old woman was taken to West Suburban Hospital, and a 35-year-old man was taken to Saint Mary's -- both treated for smoke inhalation and in good condition.The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire companies passed out smoke detectors and fire safety literature, and discussed the importance of fire safety to residents in the 4000 block of West Potomac Avenue Sunday.

COUNTRYSIDE, Ill. (CBS) -- U.S. Rep. Sean Casten won the Democratic primary for the redrawn 6th Congressional District Tuesday evening. Casten fended off a challenge from Rep. Marie Newman – who now represents the 3rd Illinois Congressional District, but instead ran in the 6th after the 3rd was redrawn. Casten won 63 percent of the vote compared with 33 percent for Newman, and 4 percent for third candidate Charles Hughes. From the south, the rewdrawn district includes Orland Park, Alsip, and Oak Lawn, and it goes as far west as parts of Wheaton up to Lombard and Elmhurst. The district...

Dixmoor Treasurer Anthony McCaskill arrested after fireworks complaint in Harvey

DIXMOOR, Ill. (CBS) -- A fireworks show in south suburban Harvey didn't go as planned – it ended with the Dixmoor village treasurer getting thrown in jail. The treasurer is now facing charges. But CBS 2 Political Investigator Dana Kozlov found the Dixmoor village president is not concerned about it at all. Kozlov asked Dixmoor Treasurer Anthony McCaskill if he wanted to comment on his arrest. He replied, "I can't answer questions with the ongoing litigation going on." McCaskill is out of lockup – but as seen there, he is not saying much about the charges he is now facing....
