An Olean man was charged with criminal contempt Thursday. New York State Police charged 29-year-old Steven Bailey with criminal contempt for violating an order of protection. He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Police locate South Dayton man wanted on warrant

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office located a South Dayton man who was wanted on an active arrest warrant. 31-year-old Dustin Martin was located on Main Street in South Dayton Thursday afternoon after the Sheriff's Office received a tip regarding his whereabouts. Martin was also charged criminal contempt in the 2nd degree since he was located inside the protected party's residence. Martin was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Machias Town Court at a later date.

The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center has all of Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties along with the southern portion of Erie County under a slight risk for severe storms. The rest of Western New York is under a marginal risk. Damaging wind gusts will be the main hazard. Lightning and locally heavy rainfall are also possible.

Franklinville scored a sweep of the boys and girls Section VI Class D track and field team titles during Friday’s meet at Randolph High School. The boys won in thrilling fashion, edging runner-up Clymer/Sherman/Panama 86-84.5. Holland came in third with 75 points, followed by Maple Grove with 69 and Chautauqua Lake 65. Probe into inmate death results in charges against Olean man

An investigation into the death of an inmate at the Cattaraugus County Jail in May has led to an arrest. The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office reports that 31-year-old Daniel Klein of Olean was arrested Tuesday afternoon for manslaughter in the 2nd degree, criminally negligent homicide, criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal sale of a controlled substance and three counts of possession of prison contraband. The charges stem from an investigation into the death of 36-year-old Franklin Chase from the Olean area, who was being held on a charge of violating parole. Klein was arraigned and remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail on $100,000 cash bail.
