Local woman arrested following domestic dispute

BUCKHANNON — Kaylea Cherie Mallett, age 28 of Buckhannon, was taken into custody following a domestic dispute on Tuesday, June 21. According to court documentation, Upshur County Sherriff’s Department Deputy J.D. Barcus responded to a domestic dispute call in Buckhannon. Upshur Comm Center notified Deputy Barcus that the defendant had allegedly bitten her on the arm and broken glass inside the residence. Upon arriving to the scene, Deputy Barcus contacted the victim, who was reported to be distraught, and identified a bite mark on her right forearm.

BUCKHANNON — On Friday, June 24, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113, which was a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court. Roe v. Wade protected a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose to have an abortion under the Constitution of the United States. Now, 50 years later, with the overturned decision, individual states will have the power to set their own abortion laws.

City issues reminder for pool, water features

BUCKHANNON — Now that it is officially summer, Buckhannon City Officials would like to remind residents of the rules of maintaining safe swimming pools and other water features. In the City of Buckhannon: “Private swimming pools containing water more than 24 inches in depth, shall be permitted only when located in rear yards, and further when completely enclosed by a fence or buildings or combination thereof of a height of six feet (6’) in the case of fences, and six feet (6’) or greater in the case of buildings and generally protected in such a manner so as to avoid becoming an attractive nuisance especially to children.”
