GermanFest set for Aug. 27 at Syracuse

GermanFest will be Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022, on the Otoe County Fairgrounds. The day will kick off with a pancake breakfast and feature food throughout the day which will conclude with a Ribfest dinner prepared by Orchard Hill BBQ. Traditional events include the crowning of royalty, a parade, tapping of the Festkeg, Best Dressed German and Hammerschlagen.

JoLene Downing, age 77 of Peru died June 20, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Center in Auburn. Jolene was born December 13, 1944 in Peru, the daughter of Joe and Ardella (Hays) Railsback. She married Marvin R. Downing July 22, 1964 in Riverside, CA. Marvin died April 22, 2013. Jolene lived in Riverside, CA and Las Vegas, NV before moving to Peru in 1994.

7-6, Food Bank at the Park 10 – 11 a.m. 7-7, Library Open 5 – 7 p.m. Saturday turned out to be a great day for the Unadilla Celebration! Thanks so much to Mal & Matt Wallen for taking this event on. You guys did an amazing job on such a short notice and we don’t think you can be thanked enough. And huge thanks also to the NMHC Men’s Club for organizing the Horseshoe Contest and the Duck Race. The day started off with garage sales and a lunch for Fire & Rescue at Jon Vodicka’s. Ron Polivka gave a presentation on the importance of pollination and how bees are one of the most important and prolific pollinators. It was given at the picnic shelter. Thanks to Bob Brandt for making this happen. Kids of all ages had a blast on the water slides. The Dirty Boots Band played later at the ballfield, and the fireworks display can only be described as awesome! All in all, it was an amazing day and thanks to all who participated. (Hope everyone’s recuperated!)

She was the beloved wife of the late Lloyd, loving mother of Cathy (of Missouri), Allan (Pam) (of Nebraska) and Lynette Scullen (deceased) (Rick) (of Ohio), grandmother of Matt Hillman (Shawna), Sarah Meints (Gabe), Brendon Scullen (Courtney) and Courtney Barto (Adam), great grandmother of James Hillman, Maverick and Everly Meints, sister of Rodger Hahn (deceased) (Pollie), Kenneth Hahn (Marilyn) (both deceased), Howard Hahn (Arleen) (both deceased), Marshall Hahn (Lucy) (both deceased) and Dwight Hahn (deceased) (Barb), aunt and great aunt of many.
