Rhinelander Area Pickleball group bringings the fastest growing sport to Pioneer Park

RHINELANDER, Wis. (WJFW) - Pickleball is a rapidly growing sport in the country. Some people describe as a cross between tennis and ping pong. Driving the sports growth is its accessibility to all ages. The Rhinelander Area Pickleball Group held its last summer gathering at Pioneer Park yesterday. It was part of a series of lessons to introduce more people to the sport.

Authorities search Hwy. 86 property for Tomahawk-area man missing since Nov. 2021

LINCOLN COUNTY – Authorities are continuing their search for a Tomahawk-area man who has been missing since late last year. According to a release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday, June 22, an “extensive search” of a property on State Hwy. 86 west of Tomahawk was launched. The Sheriff’s Office said the property was the last location David Lee Strahota, age 61, described as being 5’4” tall and weighing 200 pounds, was seen.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office search home for missing person

LINCOLN COUNTY, Wis. (WSAW) - The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is searching a home near Tomahawk for a man missing since November of 2021. The Sheriff’s Office says David Lee Strahota was last seen near a property on State Highway 86, west of Tomahawk. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office started an extensive search on that property Wednesday.

Falken Scores Three Podiums at Amsoil Championship Off-Road Series

Falken drivers scored a second place and a pair of thirds in the season-opening rounds of the 2022 Amsoil Championship Off-Road Series at Antigo Lions Roaring Raceway. The triple-podium results came from the efforts of Trey Gibbs of Murrieta, CA, who earned third in the ProLite race in Round 1, having started in 22nd. Gibbs during Round 2 started in seventh and with four laps remaining, jumped into fourth, moving to third the very next circuit, and made a pass to finish second on the final corner, the company says.

Minnesota Man Dies Sunday in Freshwater Drowning on Pelican Lake

On Sunday, a 49-year-old Merrifield resident drowned in freshwater on Pelican Lake. A complaint of a guy being taken from the lake while swimming from a pontoon on the south end of Pelican Lake close to a public access received the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office’s attention at 2:59 pm.

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk STAR Foundation is encouraging local educators to apply for its Beyond Crayons and Chromebooks grants. The STAR (Support Tomahawk Area Resources) Foundation, which acts as a community chest for businesses and individuals by making charitable grants to community groups, clubs and non-profit organizations that contribute to the health and vitality of the Tomahawk area, said the grants are designed to “enhance and reward innovative teaching, learning and special motivational activities” in public and private Tomahawk-area schools.

Hofrichter, Smith compete on Team Wisconsin at National Duals

Antigo wrestlers Alexandra Hofrichter and Samson Smith recently made the trip down to Oklahoma to compete as part of Team Wisconsin for the National Duals event. Hofrichter competed in the Junior Women’s Freestyle division, and Smith competed as a 16U cadet in Greco. Tomahawk man arrested; suspected of thefts, burglaries, drug activity

MERRILL – A Tomahawk man is in custody and facing charges related to thefts, burglaries and drug activity. According to a release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Zachary Huston, 38, was arrested on Thursday, June 16 following the execution of a search warrant by the Sheriff’s Office, the Central Wisconsin Narcotics Task Force, the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office and the Tomahawk Police Department in the Town of Bradley.
