El Paso County Judge Criticizes Governor Abbott’s Plan to Build Border Wall

Saying there are more urgent matters facing Texans, El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego is critical of Governor Greg Abbott’s plan to build more barriers along the border. Yesterday, Governor Abbott announced plans to make what he calls a down payment of 250-million dollars from the state budget to add to the border wall. Abbott and former President Trump are scheduled to visit the border at the end of the month. Samaniego told KTSM Nine there’s little land along the border that does not have a barrier. Samaniego says a bigger issue right now is getting more people in Juarez vaccinated before the bridges reopen for non-essential travel.

Concrete and asphalt dump in Colorado Springs set to become new neighborhood

A former landfill previously full of construction debris in southeast Colorado Springs is getting transformed into a new neighborhood of up to 194 homes. The landfill south of the Platte Avenue and Wooten Road intersection had been well outside of town when huge pieces of asphalt and concrete from construction projects were buried on the site, said Steve Schuck, the developer who did the mitigation. Colorado Springs Utilities used the site as a landfill prior to 1996, according to city documents.

Two deadly shootings took place two miles and 30 minutes apart in southeastern Colorado Springs early Thursday, but officers say they do not have an apparent connection. Widefield daycare owner arrested for baby's death

A local daycare operator has been arrested in connection with the death of a baby in her care. On Feb. 5, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center received a call regarding an unresponsive infant at an address in the 500 block of Widefield Drive. Operating at this address was an in-home daycare for numerous children ranging in ages from 18 months to 7 years old. The facility was operated by Dana McNair, age 53.
