Officer hurt in Saturday night shooting in Southwest Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A Wichita Police officer shot multiple times in an incident late Saturday night. We’ve confirmed the male suspect died on scene. Wichita Police say this started as a welfare check on the 500 block W Carlyle. Upon arrival, the two officers were shot at, one officer hit multiple times. The officer was taken to an area hospital, their condition is unknown.

A Kansas police officer was in critical condition Saturday night after being shot multiple times by a suspect during a call in Wichita, police said. The suspect opened fire on two officers who were attempting to conduct a welfare check at the home in the southern part of the city around 10:15 p.m. local time, Wichita Police Capt. Wendell Nicholson told reporters in a late-night briefing.

Police: Shooting near Wichita's Keeper of the Plains, injures one

A shooting took place in a parking lot near the Keeper of the Plains in downtown Wichita. It happened around 4:50 p.m. Friday. A young man, 18, was taken to an area hospital in serious condition. Investigators said they learned that shots had been fired in the parking area by an individual. Witnesses said one man had exited a vehicle and fired shots at the 18-year-old, who was in a different car.

Brian McHughes, spokesman for Penumbra International, resigns

Wichita, Kan. (KAKE) - Brian McHughes, spokesman for Penumbra International, LLC tendered his resignation on Saturday. Penumbra LLC is a company that, according to the Secretary of State's office, was formed in late January of 2020. In early 2020, they had proposed a $1.5 billion dollar development to be built in downtown Wichita. The Riverwalk Project would include a LEGOLAND facility, a massive Ferris wheel, a 500-room hotel, an international market, and more. Plans also include the conversion of Century II into an air and space museum.
