ALFRED, Maine — The man accused of fatallyshooting his toddler niece in Wells in May and injuring his brother and father pleaded not guilty to all charges Friday morning. Andrew Huber Young faced a judge over Zoom from the York County Jail in Alfred where he is being held without bail.

Grill Blamed for Milton, NH, Fire That Destroyed House

A charcoal grill is the likely cause of a fire that destroyed a Milton home and killed several cats early Wednesday morning. Assistant Fire Chief Tyler Taatjes said Milton firefighters arrived around 3:15 a.m. to a fire engulfing the large two story home and garage on Northeast Pond Road. Additonal alarms were sounded to bring additional water tankers to the scene to help with water supply issues.

Laconia sets aside $20K for policing the homeless in city parks

LACONIA, NH – UPDATED: Prompted by Councilor Henry Lipman, the city of Laconia decided on Monday to set aside $20,000 from end-of-fiscal year contingency money as a financial incentive for the city police to develop a plan for policing the homeless who use the city parks as living quarters.

Conejos County awards scholarships to Sanford grads

At the May 26 Conejos County Commissioner’s Special Board Meeting, Commissioner Mitchel Jarvies, Carlos Garcia and Joseph Baroz presented $1,000 scholarship to Cheyenne Caldon, Dailin Estrada and Haley Faucette, 2022 Sanford High School graduating Seniors. All three students’ post-secondary education plans are to pursue degrees in the medical field. The Commissioners thanked the students for applying for the scholarship and commended each student for their involvement in activities at Sanford High School and their outstanding academic achievements and wished them well in their personal career goals.

Firefighters Battle Blazes in Dover and Milton, NH

Firefighters from Strafford County and beyond responded to two building fires within approximately 15 hours of each other. Fire broke out at a building on North East Pond Road in Milton around 3 a.m. that went to four alarms, according to Wakefield Fire and Rescue. Firefighting efforts lasted into the early morning hours to bring the blaze under control and put out hot spots.
