Dozens arrested, 6 wanted, after large drug bust in Henderson County

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office has arrested dozens of people after a drug bust involving six houses. Deputies said on Thursday, June 30, a six-month-long drug investigation by the Drug Task Force ended with seven search warrants being executed and numerous arrests being made.

Bear cub rescued from plastic jar in North Carolina

July 1 (UPI) -- A wildlife biologist in North Carolina came to the rescue of a bear cub seen wandering in Asheville with a plastic food container stuck over its head. Justin McVey, a wildlife biologist with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, responded to a report of a bear cub with a large plastic jar stuck over its head this week in Asheville and he arrived to find the animal had climbed a tree outside a home.

Malvern Hills Pool opens on Saturday, making both of Asheville’s public pools available to the community for the summer

Following weeks of conversations, engineering consultations, and brainstorming, Asheville Parks & Recreation is happy to announce that Malvern Hills Pool will open on Saturday, July 2, at 11 a.m. Regular operating hours for the pool on 75 Rumbough Place are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday, 1-6 p.m. on Sunday, and 12-6 p.m. Monday-Friday. Admission is $3 per person. Season passes are $100 for an individual or $150 for a family of up to four individuals.

Caught on camera: Candler nursery out $1,500 after thief steals Japanese maple trees

CANDLER, N.C. (WLOS) — A nursery in Candler has been hit twice in two weeks by a plant thief, according to the owner. Surveillance cameras at Smokey Park Nursery captured the suspect attempting to steal a potted plant and a Japanese maple tree around midnight on June 28. Owner Derek Engelhardt said the suspect was after his Japanese maple trees, but she got spooked and fled, leaving the loot behind.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Asheville Police Department is searching for a missing man last seen on Friday, June 24. According to police, 20-year-old Gabriel Focaracci was reported missing by his family on Friday, June 24. Police say he was supposed to go to a concert with some friends on Sunday, June 26, but never showed up.

Motel death ruled ‘self-inflicted intentional act’

An explosion in May at a Black Mountain motel that claimed the life of one person was the result of a suicide, an investigation has determined. Local authorities, who responded to a call at the Apple Blossom Motel on West State Street just after 10 p.m. on Memorial Day, were assisted in the inquiry by the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, according to Black Mountain Police Chief Steve Parker.

Man sentenced after found guilty of attempting to run over man back in 2021

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Asheville Police said a man was sentenced to an eight-month active sentence after he was found guilty of trying to run over man back in 2021. According to police, 42-year-old Scott Ford was found guilty of felony animal cruelty, simple assault and felony obstruction of justice. He is sentenced to an eight-month active sentence followed by a two-year suspended sentence with probation.
