Marion County Sheriff’s Department investigates thefts and burglaries

The Marion County Sheriff’s Department investigated three theft and burglary complaints last week. The sheriff’s department was called Thursday to a building in the 100 block of Railroad Street in Patoka where nearly 900 electronic components were stolen. Most of the items were later recovered at a recycling business. The sheriff’s department is looking for a suspect.

2022 07/06 – William T. “Bud” Lents

William T. “Bud” Lents of Flora, IL passed away Thursday, the 30th of June 2022 in his home, after a long battle with cancer. Bud was born on the 17th of February 1938 in Flora to Frank and Madeline (Gibson) Lents. He graduated from Flora High School. He served our nation in the US Navy for twenty years, obtaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. In 1976, Bud retired from the Navy and returned with his family to Flora. He quickly found another way to serve, this time his neighbors, as a US Postal Service letter carrier for twenty years.

Salem Firemen confine pickup truck fire to contents

The Salem Fire Protection District was able to confine a fire in a pickup truck owned by Kevin Bishop of Julia Drive in Salem to the contents in the bed of the truck. There was concern when the fire was called in that the fire could spread to Bishop’s mobile home a short distance away. However, a quick knockdown kept that from occurring as well as the fire spreading to the rest of the truck.

TIF Committee Meeting Set For Wednesday

There will be a TIF Committee meeting Wednesday, July 6th at 6pm at Teutopolis Village Hall at 106 West Main Street in Teutopolis. The Committee will be going over current amounts available in TIF I & II, payment plan to repay the Village, coming up with projections and possible projects to use TIF dollars on.

Sandoval woman arrested for alleged DUI following crash in rural Odin

A 29-year-old Sandoval woman has been arrested for alleged driving under the influence following a two vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Red Stripe Road in rural Odin. Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies say Cassandra Deadmond rear-ended a car on the side of the road that had run out of gas. The driver, 20-year-old Elizabeth Mansell of Valentine Street in Odin, was still waiting in the vehicle waiting for gas to arrive.

In Softball Minors, Modern Woodman beat T&K Title for the City Series championship 8-1. In girls Majors, Landers knocked off Dairy Queen in the 3rd and decisive game of their best of 3 City Series winning 10-1. Chelsey Haines had 2 hits and a run, Samara Simmons 2 hits and drove in a run along with Alana Howe with Kinslie Parrish adding 2 hits, 2 runs and 2 RBI. In the loss, DQ’s Jorja English and Ziva Owens had 2 hits each. Alaigha Hughes, Gabby Goosetree, Grayce Rose all singled. Kenzie Collier doubled driving in a run.

John Lowell Tanner, 93 of Stewardson, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at HSHS St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2022 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Stewardson Cemetery, Stewardson, with military rites. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to the time of service, Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Stewardson United Methodist Church, Stewardson American Legion Post #611, or the Stewardson Lion’s Club.

Salem Soccer Tryouts July 9th

Salem Soccer will have their Fall tryouts next Saturday, July 9th at FCC Fields. Salem Soccer joins the SWIS league in the Fall. Their season goes from mid-August to October. They travel to Clinton County area teams, Lebanon, Mascoutah, O’Fallon, etc. We will also attend one to two tournaments.

Sarah Bush Lincoln completes acquisition of Fayette County Hospital

MATTOON — The Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System announced Friday that it now fully owns its Sarah Bush Lincoln Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia. Sarah Bush Lincoln reported in a news release that the Fayette County Circuit Court held a public hearing on Wednesday and, following no objections, approved the Mattoon-based health system's acquisition of the Fayette County Hospital building. The release reported that this action paved the way for Sarah Bush Lincoln to fully own the hospital in Vandalia following the signing of the agreements to transfer the assets on Thursday.
