INDOOR FOOTBALL: Whitfield, Gandy lead Warbirds’ rout of Arlington

Running back Tim Whitfield scored four touchdowns, wide receiver Jordan Gandy added three more and the West Texas Warbirds routed visiting Arlington, 68-21, on Saturday at Ector County Coliseum. The victory improved the Warbirds to 3-0 on the season and clinched a spot in the playoffs during this abbreviated season.

Lumpkin to take over as Downing principal

Just after spring break, Lindsey Lumpkin became an assistant principal at Edward K. Downing Elementary School. Starting off as an assistant principal, she will officially take charge July 1, replacing Marcos Lopez, the campus’ founding principal. Lumpkin has been with Ector County ISD off and on for almost 12 years.

ECISD Superintendent; summer school enrollment up by 4000

ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) -Ector County ISD said over 6,000 students in grades Pre-K through 12th are now enrolled in summer sessions. That’s 4,000 more students than last year. Thanks to the summer slide and a year of virtual learning for some students during the pandemic, ECISD Superintendent Dr. Scott Muri said more families are turning to summer school.

Odessa man sentenced to life in prison for fifth DWI

ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) - An Odessa man is set to spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated. According to Ector County District Attorney Dusty Gallivan, Randy Byrd pled guilty to his fifth DWI and requested that the jury in the case decide his sentence.

Astronaut Jose Hernandez speaks to Ector County Independent School District BE and ESL Program students Wednesday morning in the Odessa High School Performing Arts Center. Hernandez tells the story of how his parents migrated to America for work annually from Mexico to work in the fruit fields in California. Hernandez was born in Southern California where he would later land in a space shuttle. Hernandez flew on Discovery STS-128 Mission to the International Space Station as a flight engineer. Hernandez did not speak English until he was 12 an is now the president and CEO of Tierra Luna Engineering, LLC.
