Marie Southall Carter, of Lake Park, GA, died on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. She was born on February 3, 1937, in Clyattville, to the late Jim and Sally Rowland Southall. She graduated from Clyattville High School in the mid 1950’s and worked for Bell South for a few years. In the late 1950’s, she met Charles Carter on a blind date, and they were married in March of 1957 at the home of Frank and Gladys Carter in Echols County. She spent the next several decades raising her children and then grandchildren, as well as assisting her husband on the farm. She was a devoted mother who would deny herself before she would deny her children. She also worked as a substitute teacher in Echols County Schools. Her favorite past times were working in her yard with her flowers, growing her garden, canning its produce, and being with her family while cooking Sunday lunch and many other gatherings.

Rosalyn Marie Read, 81, oldest of twelve children to the late Lamar (L. M.) and Alberta Lee Stalvey Tomlinson passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born in Statenville, Echols County, GA on May 9, 1940. Mrs. Read was owner of Read’s Daycare and a member of Cat Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She was an accomplished cook and loved listening to the laughter of babies. Grandma Rose was famous for her red lipstick kisses! Rosie was tremendously generous, and happy to share anything, except Margie’s peanut brittle! Sister Rose enjoyed listening to gospel music, usually with one foot tapping away! Her life motto was, “All is well, God is Good.”

Sandra Carter Hughes, 70, of Echols County passed away on Sunday, August 29th, 2021 at Tift Regional Hospital. Sandra was born on April 4, 1951 in Valdosta, Georgia to Ray “BO” Carter and Lorene Culpepper Carter. She was a member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God in Jacksonville, Florida. She was a 1969 Honor Graduate of Lowndes High School and a 1973 graduate of Lee University.
