Protest at Greenfield Fireworks

(Photo submitted by Ellie Richardson) (Greenfield, MA) – The Greenfield Recreation Department held its annual 4th of July fireworks display on Friday night. And people at Beacon Field were witness to a silent protest of the recent Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. During the national anthem, a group of women dressed in “Handmaid’s Tale” style robes lined up in front of the stage. The group that organized the protest submitted the following press release afterwards:

Greenfield fireworks, a success!

Greenfield’s annual Fourth of July Fireworks celebration was yesterday and the fun got underway much earlier in the day. Hundreds of people came out to Beacon Field for the beloved tradition. As always, in addition to fireworks it featured plenty of good food, fun activities, and live music by local bands including Lakeside Drive, and Janet Ryan & Straight Up.

40 Rescued from sky ride at Southwick's Zoo

Veterans, local leaders warn against illegal fireworks during Fourth of July weekend

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Fourth of July weekend is here, and with that comes cookouts, parades, and of course fireworks! As a reminder, it is illegal to possess, use, and transport fireworks in Massachusetts, and officials warned they can be dangerous and affect people differently. Local leaders reminded community members that fireworks can be harmful to some, including pets, babies, and people who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, like veterans.

Saturday morning news update
