Injured woman airlifted by helicopter after Sunday crash

A 42-year-old Apple River, Ill., woman was transported by helicopter from a crash scene Sunday. The crash happened shortly before 1 p.m. on East Stagecoach Trail about .3 miles east of North Hodgin Road in rural Apple River, according to a news release from Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.

City Council Approves Contract To Repair Ice Center

The Dubuque City Council voted 7-0 to approve a contract with Keller North America for the Mystique Community Ice Center settlement remediation project and 7-0 to approve a contract with Portzen Construction for the concrete subfloor installation portion of the project. Right now, the city is in the process of repairing and remediating settlement that has occurred at the ice center as a result of being built on a former landfill without deep foundational support. The project will include the removal of the ice rink and installation of a deep foundation system. To complete construction, the Mystique Community Ice Center will be closed from June 1st to November 1st.

Jackson County Jail Ground Breaking

Jackson County officials got to celebrate some progress Monday on a multi-million dollar facility. Community leaders gathered in Maquoketa to break ground on a new law enforcement center. The $7-and-a-half million dollar project is estimated to take about 18 months to finish. Once complete, the center will house a jail and space for the sheriff’s department. The new 32-bed jail will nearly triple the county’s current capacity. The Jackson County Jail has been cited before by the Iowa Department of Corrections for having safety risks. Authorities said the facility could be shut down by the state if issues weren’t addressed.

3 Women Injured by Knife at Large Disturbance in Downtown Dubuque Sunday

On Sunday morning, a large disturbance in Downtown Dubuque has left 3 people with knife wounds. According to the Telegraph Herald, Police Lieutenant Ted McClimon says 25-year-old Carteasia L. Carpenter, and 30-year-old Catrice S. Carpenter, both of 504 W. 17th St., and 19-year-old Jashonna J. Vaughn, of 2639 University Ave., all were taken by ambulance to MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center, where they were treated for their lacerations and released.

FBI Investigates Case In Benton

Multiple local law enforcement agencies assisted the FBI during an investigation in southwest Wisconsin on Tuesday. According to an update from Benton Police Chief Brian Hammill, FBI officials were working on a criminal investigation in the Village of Benton around 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. Along with Benton Police, the Hazel Green Police Department, Grant and Lafayette County Sheriff’s Offices, Wisconsin State Patrol, as well as Benton First Responders assisted the FBI. Chief Hammill says no additional information will be released by the Benton Police Department at this time.

Woman Runs Over Man With Her Vehicle

Police say a woman who struck a man with her vehicle, seriously injuring him, earlier this month in Dubuque faces a felony charge. 33 year old Kenya Loveless of Davenport was arrested Monday on a warrant charging knowingly leaving the scene of a crash resulting in a serious injury. Reports say that 63 year old Larue Jackson of Dubuque had been riding in a vehicle driven by Loveless on May 4th. Jackson had gotten out of the vehicle when an argument started. Loveless drove in reverse from a parking spot in an alley and an open door of the vehicle struck Jackson, knocking him to the ground. The vehicle ran over his arm and chest. Jackson was taken by ambulance to MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center for treatment of a broken arm.
