Maggie and Paul Murdaugh, victims of double homicide, laid to rest in Hampton Cemetery

Just after noon on Friday, June 11, Margaret "Maggie" Murdaugh and Paul Murdaugh were laid to rest in the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton, S.C. Margaret, 52, and her son, Paul, 22, were the victims of a brutal double homicide that occurred at their home in Colleton County on the night of Monday, June 7. The S.C. Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office are still investigating the shooting deaths, but as of midday Friday there have been no arrests reported and few details released.

Drunk driver charged in man’s death

A Walterboro man is charged with Felony DUI after a passenger in his vehicle died during a car crash. Roland Owens, 47, of Walterboro, is charged with Felony Driving Under the Influence Resulting in a Death. On June 3rd at about 9:56 p.m., Owens was driving a minivan along Sniders Highway (S.C. Highway 61) when he went through the intersection of S.C. Highway 45 and Highway 61 and then crashed into a tree, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Trooper First Class Nick Pye. This was a one-car collision.

Walterboro City Council voted unanimously in its June 1st city council meeting to end the city’s current mask ordinance. According to council members’ vote, masks will no longer be required to be worn by the public within city limits. Until this vote was cast, the mask ordinance was in effect, requiring that a mask be worn by everyone while inside and outside of businesses and on city streets and in city parks.
