17th Annual Callie Rohr Memorial Canoe Race takes place in Conover

CONOVER, Wis. (WJFW) - The 17th annual Callie Rohr memorial canoe ride took place outside Conover today. Callie Rohr died of a brain tumor more than 20 years ago and this race started in her legacy. The day started with the the pro and semi pro race who went 14 miles then an 8 mile recreation race, then later on the tv media race which went a mile and a half.

Rhinelander Area Pickleball group bringings the fastest growing sport to Pioneer Park

RHINELANDER, Wis. (WJFW) - Pickleball is a rapidly growing sport in the country. Some people describe as a cross between tennis and ping pong. Driving the sports growth is its accessibility to all ages. The Rhinelander Area Pickleball Group held its last summer gathering at Pioneer Park yesterday. It was part of a series of lessons to introduce more people to the sport.

Forest County house fire displaces 13

CRANDON, Wis. (WJFW)- According to the American Red Cross of Wisconsin; volunteers are providing comfort and aid for essentials (ex. meals, replacement clothes) to a family of 13 displaced by a fire at their home early Sunday on State Highway 55 in Crandon. Nine of those displaced are children under the age of 18. Our volunteers will continue to help this family through the next steps on their recovery.

Minnesota Man Dies Sunday in Freshwater Drowning on Pelican Lake

On Sunday, a 49-year-old Merrifield resident drowned in freshwater on Pelican Lake. A complaint of a guy being taken from the lake while swimming from a pontoon on the south end of Pelican Lake close to a public access received the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office’s attention at 2:59 pm.

Hazel Marion (Kuhnert) Kell, died Sunday, June 19, 2022, at the Aspirus Seasons of Life Hospice House in Woodruff, WI. Hazel was born August 14, 1930 and was the daughter of Emma Zahrt and Robert Kuhnert. Hazel married Wilbert A. Kell on June 11, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church in the town of Easton. The couple celebrated 56 loving years together. Hazel worked at GTE Telephone Co, farmed, and worked at Lemke’s Cheese Co.
