6 Polk County cities to hold Juneteenth celebrations as it becomes national holiday

LAKELAND, Fla. - Washington officially declared Juneteenth a national holiday and Bay Area African American leaders say it’s been a long time coming. "It is significant because since 1866 there have been celebrations by people of African American descent. Now we are in 2021, and it is finally being recognized as a national day," Doris Moore Bailey, regional director of Juneteenth festivities for Florida, Georgia and South Carolina explained.
