Deputies arrest Dunnellon man after vehicle pursuit from Hernando to Beverly Hills

A Dunnellon man is accused of leading a Citrus County Sheriff’s Office deputy on a vehicle chase from Hernando to Beverly Hills. At the end of the alleged pursuit at around 1:38 a.m. Sunday, May 15, deputies arrested Dave Erick Roman, pitting the 53-year-old against charges of fleeing and eluding law enforcement, resisting law enforcement without violence, and driving without a valid license.

Judge rules City of Ocala to repay citizens $79 million dollars for illegally collected fire fee tax

OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - A judge ruled that the City of Ocala must repay some citizens for an illegal fire fee they collected for more than a decade. Court documents show that between 2006 and 2010 the Ocala City council went back and forth on whether or not to establish a fire fee to offset a portion of the general operating costs of the fire department. They ultimately decided to implement such an ordinance.

Speeding Oxford woman and Leesburg passenger nabbed with gun and drugs

An Oxford woman stopped for speeding in Groveland was arrested on drug charges, while her passenger from Leesburg was charged with carrying a concealed weapon. Shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday, a Groveland police officer using radar clocked a white Buick traveling south on U.S. Highway 27 at 70 mph in a 55-mph zone. The officer paced the vehicle for about a mile as it maintained its speed. The officer initiated a traffic stop near Highway 27 and County Road 561, according to the police report.
