Man in jail for homicide in Fourth of July fatal shooting

A man was tentatively charged with homicide and booked into the Dane County Jail last week in one of the fatal shootings that happened over the Fourth of July weekend. Madison police have not identified any suspects in the case, but they arrested Tamas R. Smith and took him to jail last Thursday in the case of the July 4 killing of 31-year-old Keairra C. Fields, according to jail records.

MADISON, Wis. — A severe thunderstorm watch is now in effect for most of Wisconsin until 2 a.m. Thursday morning. The National Weather Service issued the watch a 7:15 p.m. Wednesday for several counties, including Adams, Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Green, Iowa, Jefferson, Juneau, Lafayette, Richland, Rock, Sauk, and Walworth Counties in southern Wisconsin.

Players from Monona Grove and McFarland named to All-State Team

Soccer players from McFarland High School and Monona Grove High School were named to the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association All-State Team on Tuesday, July 27. Monona Grove's lone recipient was freshman Isabelle Dehner, who was selected as an honorable mention. Dehner played in all 13 games for Monona Grove, helping shut down opposing offenses, but also scored three goals and recorded two assists.

Windsor man charged with felony assault

Frank Eugene Greenawalt, 58, of Windsor, is charged with three counts of felony sexual assault following an incident on October 9, 2020. Greenawalt appeared in Dane County Circuit Court via Zoom videoconference on July 22. He was originally scheduled to have an initial appearance on June 24, but he did not appear. According to court documents, the Dane County District Attorney’s Office could not prove proper notification, and so the hearing was rescheduled.

Construction planned for US 14, WIS 92 to start Aug. 2 east of Brooklyn

A $4.07 million reconstruction project involving the U.S. Highway 14 and Interstate 92 intersection just east of the Village of Brooklyn is set to commence Aug. 2. The work will include turning the intersection into a multi-lane roundabout, according to a news release from the state Department of Transportation. Madison hit-and-run suspect remains at large

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The 22-year-old man who allegedly forced a bystander at gunpoint to drive him from the scene of a hit-and-run last month remains at large. On Tuesday, the Madison Police Dept. released the suspect’s name, identifying him as Joseph Mitchell, and asked the public for information locating him. Mitchell stands 5′8″ tall, weighs 198 lbs., and could be armed, MPD’s update stated.
