James Cloud “Cloudy Bill” Lucy

James Cloud “Cloudy Bill” Lucy, age 84, of Emporia, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2022. Born and raised in Freeman, he was the son of the late John James and Ruby Daniel Lucy. He was also preceded in death by a brother, David Anderson Lucy, and a sister, Shirley Lucy Trent. Mr. Lucy retired after more than 30 years at Rochester Button Company. He enjoyed dancing, fishing, socializing, meeting new friends, and telling stories. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren who were his pride and joy. He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Lucy Sheldon and husband, Steve, and Jennifer Lucy Moody and husband, Dwayne; grandchildren, Whitney Davis (Michael), Morgan Best, James Russell Moody, and Jackson Moody; a great-grandson, Alden Davis.

LAWRENCEVILLE – Everette Gibson, Lawrenceville Town Manager, presented an update on projects to members of the Lawrenceville Town Council at the June meeting. VDOT Sidewalk Projects - The VDOT Sidewalk Project was just recently completed. Mrs. Kimberly Martin created a PowerPoint to showcase the improved walkability efforts being made in Town. In addition, the two new VDOT Sidewalk Projects are scheduled to begin in 2023. Summit has been selected as the engineer for the sidewalk on New Street, while B&B will be the engineer to design the walkway bridge to meet the Trail Head.

Ebony rezoning/Dollar General appeal update

BACKGROUND: The Brunswick County Board of Supervisors approved 3-2 to rezone a parcel of property from A1-Agriculture to B-1 Business on Jan. 29, 2020 to allow a Dollar General to be built across the road from Ebony General within a farming, residential community, and the heart of historic Ebony. The 2 supervisors who voted against this included the home supervisor, John Zubrod.

Town election candidates locked in; Ward II seat up for grabs in South Hill

The November 8 Town elections candidates have been finalized as of Tuesday, June 21 at 7 p.m. South Hill’s Ward I representative, Lillie Feggins-Boone, is looking to keep her seat as she is running unopposed. Ward II representatives Mike Moody and R. Alex Graham are hoping to keep their seats on the Council while Ben Taylor has decided not to run.
