(OLNEY) The second and final audition for the OCC Theater’s “one night only” Disney Cabaret show, saluting the music of Disney, is tonight at 7:00, at the Dr. John D. (OLNEY) Congratulations to another team from the Olney FFA Chapter at Richland County High School. The Olney team recently competed in the Illinois FFA State Parliamentary Procedure Leadership Development Event (LDE) at Illinois Central College in Peoria. The RCHS team placed fourth in the event out of ten Illinois teams. The Olney team consisted of Chairperson Dane Steber and five Floor Members, including Olivia Steber, Trenton Payne, Jorri VanDyke, Aubrey Lambird, and Colleen Steber. The parliamentary procedure competition’s purpose is to teach FFA members how to properly run a business meeting.

The Salem 12u fell in their opening game on Sunday in Toledo to Newton 12-0. Jaxon Ward, Kyler King and Trenton Shelton had the 3 Salem hits. On Saturday, Salem fell to Newton 8-7 and beat the Rebels 10-5. In the Newton loss, Jaxon Ward and Nicholi Mahrenka drove in 2 runs each with RBI also from Kyler King and Caleb Squibb.

(OLNEY) The Richland County Fair “Spring Crash” Demolition Derby is tonight in the Olney City Park, starting at 7:00. With the grandstand tickets priced at $10 for adults and $5 for children age 12 and under, there will be a beer tent, pork burgers and brats on sale, plus other food vendors, a 50/50 raffle, and more. (Robinson) – The Robinson City Council will hold a special meeting Tuesday evening to appoint an acting mayor. Robinson Mayor, Roger Pethtel, announced his resignation last week. Pethtel became Mayor of Robinson in 2009 after being appointed following the death of former Mayor, Gary Davis. Pethtel was re-elected just over a year ago by a small three-vote margin beating Challenger, Mike Shimer, 408 to 405. The City Council will meet tomorrow evening at 7 pm in a closed executive session to accept the resignation of Pethtel, and select and appoint an acting mayor.

(Robinson) – The Robinson Unit 2 Board will look at changes to the band program when they meet tonight. On the agenda in “New Business,” the board will review proposed changes to the band program, approve a bid for the Lincoln Grade School roof replacement, design work on the parking project, hear the presentation of the Fiscal Year 2022 budget, and set a budget hearing date. The Unit 4 Board meets this afternoon at 5:30 pm at the Central Office.

(OLNEY) A reminder that local and area students, age 16 and older, interested in serving others while learning more about healthcare careers firsthand, have until 5:00 tomorrow afternoon to get an application turned in for the Carle RMH summer volunteer program. Interested students will be required to participate in an interview, provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination (two weeks past final dose), complete a background check, and attend general volunteer orientation, plus training for the department where volunteering. Student volunteers are needed in several areas at Carle RMH, including The East Street Boutique, Patient Escorts, Same Day Surgery Waiting Room, Medical/Surgical & Intensive Care Units, Emergency Department, Cataract Surgery Waiting Room, Extended Care, and Victory Garden. A Newton man was killed in a crash in Jasper County last night. According to the Illinois State Police, 24-year-old Jarrett Zumbahlen was northbound on northbound on North 775th Street at County Road 1200 North when his car left the roadway and struck a tree. He died at the scene. The investigation continues.

(OLNEY) The Richland County Farmer’s Market will begin another season next week with plans to be available twice a week, but with new shorter hours. Set up every Tuesday and Friday under the pole barns in the Olney City Park, the Farmer’s Market will be open each of the two days from 10:00 to 2:00, starting next Tuesday. To kick things off, expect plenty of Scherer’s asparagus, some baked goods, and maybe more next week with more varieties of fruit and vegetables expected as the growing season continues in the days & weeks ahead.
