Small children rescued by police from hot car in west Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio — Two children had to be rescued from a hot car Sunday afternoon in west Toledo. Toledo Police responded to the 5700 block of Talmadge Road about 5:30 p.m. where two children were locked inside a vehicle not running. Officers noticed two kids in car seats who were crying and sweating, according to a police report.

According to police, a 43-year-old woman was driving northbound on Westwood just after 5:30 p.m. when she passed out behind the wheel. She veered off the road and struck an apartment, sending her car into a bedroom at the New Edge Apartments on Westwood.

Thunderstorms produce power loss, downed trees, property damage throughout Lenawee County

Heavy winds and thunderstorms raged through Lenawee County Saturday and Sunday nights, causing widespread power outages, fallen trees and some property damage. There were also reports of a tornado or funnel cloud seen in the area of Cemetery Road in Riga Township heading east toward Monroe County during Sunday's storm, but the National Weather Services has yet to confirm those reports.

Teen admits to role in shooting at TPD detective

A North Toledo man admitted on Monday to driving a vehicle as a co-defendant allegedly fired a handgun at an undercover Toledo police officer. Daequan Thrasher, 18, of the 3500 block of Manhattan Boulevard, pleaded guilty to felonious assault with a firearm specification, which was amended from a first-degree felony to a second-degree felony on Monday. A fourth-degree felony of receiving stolen property will be dismissed at sentencing.

Adrian Man Dies in Weekend Crash on M-50

Update 6/21 – The Adrian man who died in the crash has been identified as Cory James Sackett by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. The operator of the Toyota Corolla has been identified as James Beverly Glenn Jr., a 65-year-old Inkster man. He was transported via medical helicopter to St. Vincent Medical Center, in Toledo, OH, where he was pronounced deceased at 7:55pm as a result of injuries suffered during the crash.
