California man had enough fentanyl ‘to kill 12 million people,’ DA says

SANTA ANA, Calif. — Officials in California arrested a man on Wednesday whom they claimed possessed enough fentanyl to kill 12 million people, authorities said. Alfonso Gomez-Santana, 60, of Fullerton, was arrested and charged with one felony count of sale or transport of a controlled substance and two felony counts of possession of sale with intent to sell, according to a news release from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. He faces a maximum sentence of 80 months in the Orange County Jail if convicted on all counts.

10 Abortion Rights Organizations Accepting Donations to Support Their Fight

With the fall of Roe v. Wade, at least 26 states across the country are certain or very likely to ban abortion, to some degree. These bans include 6-week laws, which outlaw abortions that take place six weeks after conception (even though many women don't even know they're pregnant until after 6 weeks); 20-week bans, even though most abortions take place within 21 weeks, but for cases of lethal health risks and fetal deaths; and highly restrictive bans that lead to women being arrested for miscarriages. The overturning of Roe v. Wade could even spell the death of other American civil rights, such as same-sex marriage and basic access to contraception.

In lieu of county action, 35 communities outside Pittsburgh are now closer to passing climate plans

A new report provides a road map and emissions data for Pittsburgh suburbs that want to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. In 2017 the city of Pittsburgh released its third comprehensive plan to reduce its climate emissions. But it’s often difficult for many smaller communities to produce their own plans, according to the Congress of Neighboring Communities in Allegheny County. So only a couple of the 130 municipalities in the county have since followed suit.
