ST. MARY’S, Kan. (WIBW) - The Saint Marys Police Department released a statement Sunday morning saying officer Mark Lamberson unexpectedly passed away while on duty July 2. Officer Lamberson had been with the department since 2013. Prior to that, Lamberson worked for the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office as a jail deputy.

Onaga woman injured in crash near Pottawatomie-Nemaha County line

An Onaga woman is recovering following a Wednesday car crash near the Pottawatomie and Nemaha County line. Officials with the Kansas Highway Patrol say 58-year-old Delores Sauvage was northbound on Kansas Highway 63 shortly before 12:30 p.m. when her Cadillac Deville left the roadway to the east and struck a field entrance. The car reportedly went airborne before coming to rest on it’s front.

Saint Marys man sentenced for Atchison Co. burglaries

ATCHISON CO., Kan. (WIBW) - A Saint Marys, Kansas man has been sentenced to just under seven years in prison for his role in a burglary spree in 2020. Curt Vandevelde was found guilty on June 1 by a jury on all charges, which included aggravated battery of a residence, burglary of a motor vehicle, and three counts of theft.

Lafayette County accident fatal for Kansas man

LAFAYETTE COUNTY – An accident on I-70 in Lafayette County was fatal for a Holton, Ks. man Friday afternoon. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred as a Ford F250 driven by Gary K. Fortner, 57, experienced a tire blowout. Fortner was ejected from the truck as it traveled off the roadway and overturned.

St. Marys police officer Mark Lamberson passed away while on duty Saturday, July 2, according to a press release from Chief Derek Cid. “The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Officer Lamberson's passing and will release any information they determine is necessary and relevant to public interest, however no foul play is suspected,” Cid said in the release, which was issued Sunday morning.
